I see the expression "soup to nuts" often. Can someone explain where it came from?
I believe full dinners (7 course meals) used to start with soup and end with an assortment of nuts after the meal. As an Italian, we have soup first, then salad, then any kind of appetizer, main dish. Afterwards we usually have nuts and candy with soft drinks, then after that they put out the cake and coffee. Yum!
