Anyone know where I might find a rear windshield for an 83 400i? Is it flat glass where an auto glass company could make one?

    Thanks in advance.

Try Ricambi ( sponsor here) There may be a 2nd hand one somewhere, - Ferrparts in CA ? GT Auto Parts Arizona ?
but new ones are likley to have bee sourced from Europe, even if you buy it in the US.

And if all else fails, I can probably produce a new one, either by using O.E. window as a pattern/template or make it from "scratch" custom fitted to your car.
Have been providing this types of specialty service for custom, exotic & vintage vehicles for over 20 years.
Actially, I'm right now waiting a customer to bring a fairly collectible vintage car ('57 Chrysler 300) from L.A. area to my shop this morning for a sale & installation of one of the most complex "replacement" windows I've ever produced.
These very large (tall/wide), severely compound curved, tinted and shaded rear windows for '57-'59 Chrysler 300/New Yorker/Saratoga and DeSoto Adventurer/Fireflite/Firedome Coupes haven't been available new for over 40 years and even decent used ones have been nearly impossible to find for decades.
So after 15+ years of occasional interest here and there and finally seeing the values of these cars at levels worthy of serious restorations, I finally had enough courage to fabricate a better fitting templates/molds and pay for initial production start-/set-up costs.
Although I have a little bit of bias with these, I do believe (as does every one who's bought one so far) that mine do fit better than O.E. examples and yet even with fairly substancial per each pricing, it'll take me awhile to recover my initial investments.
OTOH, they've been selling worldwide with much better pace than I had anticipated.

Damn I just scrapped a 57 Chrysler Imperial. tried to find a home but no one wanted it. Rust free car. I got $40. Scrap Real shame. Now about the 400 glass. I bought a spare car because all the glass is perfect. I will pull the rear for $1,100 plus box/ packaging and freight. I can have that done Monday

Thanks all. Mitchell, been a long time since we have chatted. Sorry to hear of your health and car struggles. Thanks for your offer and I will keep it in mind if I can't find anything in CA.

Timo - can you pm contact info? I may want to go the fab route.

I bought a new OEM replacement one last year from europsares... No complaints at all with excellent fit and finish. I paid £695.00 GBP for the glass and they charged another 60 for packing and 200 for shipping, so it totaled £955.00 GBP and recommend the no hassle, no disappointment route.

    Good luck!

Eurospares still do the rear screen for GBP 695, but it doesn't have the heating elements. Not that that's a worry if you only drive the car in warm/dry conditions, like in California. But not so handy for us folk in the UK!

I purchased from Lyle Tanner a pair of lenses that are broken arrivals. They sent me one other but of poor quality. Maybe bad time experience? Email : [email protected]
