The canvas convertible top cover on my 87 3.2 Cabrio has a tear in it, near one of the snaps. I suspect the cover is original and as the convertible roof never folds as compactly as originally intended, the cover has been under stress (or the canvas has shrunk over time).

Time for a replacement, but can anyone suggest a source? Ideally it would have a little stretch in it.

Are the leather top covers a better solution?

I never looked for a replacement canvas top for my car, I wanted a leather one, Rich and Famous in California used to make them for about $450, they don't make them anymore and the best deal I could find was somewhere around $1,200 to $1,500 from another vendor.
But what I've heard from their owners is that the leather is even worse than the canvas as far as shrinking. I think the best solution may be to just have one made locally using your old one as a pattern.
I gave up and just decided to keep my canvas one.
I actually just did a quick search and found this one and a few others on eBay.

Thanks for the insight - actually you raise a good point - the car is located in Bologna and I am always around Modena searching for bits for other cars. I should be able to find someone locally who can cut and stitch a new cover.

Make sure you keep the OEM "horsey" snaps, if you have them, they're hard to find!

The ideal cover material would have a slight bit of stretch to it. I still have an original fabric one that is holding up well, it seems to have the slight stretch even after all these years, so must have a similar construction to the Stayfast fabric I linked to which is known to have some stretch. Looks like the identical material used for the original convertible top, the same black exterior and tan interior. Leather seems like a bad idea for this application.

Having a custom cover made should not be too hard with the original you have as a pattern. And yes, those horsie covered tennax fasteners are valuable, they can be easily transferred and attached to a new cover.

In the UK Kent High Performance used to do these covers primarily for 308 etc so they will have the experience for Mondial - on that basis there must be local expertise in Italy - could be worth an ask in the 308 section

Thanks - I will inquire on both fronts. I have made an inquiry with a friend in the restoration business near Modena who works on L-cars, I will see what he comes up with. FWIW, when I asked at Ferrari, they pointed me towards Luppi who does high end interiors for vintage restorations. Maybe not in the Mondial price range.
