I might be looking for carpet, door panels and seat covers very soon. What sources are recommended?
For the seats, you can either go with pre-fab seat covers (from Reoriginals or GAHH, and probably others) or you can have your upholsterer order a roll of hide (GAHH has this) and do the cutting and stitching. I did the latter, buying only the headrests embossed with the horsies. You will want to get the seat padding redone at the same time. In fact, seat covers won't fit well if you don't do this. The door panels and center console leather was cut from the same role, so it matched (grain and color). I never replaced the carpets, so no source for those.
Have you or anyone seen them side-by-side to compare which is nicer? I would guess re-original will indeed look like a factory part. As for the foam, I know 25+ years has taken it's toll. I wonder if re-original can get new foam pieces made?
GAHH has a great reputation - and that doesn't happen with this crowd if the quality is off. I wrote to GAHH recently asking for a quote for the parts I needed for my 308GTB. They made me a nice offer for the kit cheaper than the websites offer! My recommendation is to talk to them directly and get a quote. You can always say no.
I have bought all my stuff from GAHH and their quality is very good. I ordered the leather from a different Ferrari source originally and ended up returning their stuff and buying everything from GAHH as it looked much better. I got carpet and leather from them. Helmut
I just got off the phone with GAHH, and they will send me samples of 3 shades of leather. I'm planning an interior color change from Bordeaux to Saddle (some shade of saddle) for my Black B. Hope their quality is as good as everyone says. My new paint will be better than original, HOPEFULLY! They seem very friendly and knowledgeable at GAHH. I'm still in need of a new paint decal for under the engine cover though, Eurospares do not have NERO. (I had the underside of my engine cover stripped to bare metal) Ciao.
There's multiple options of "tan" three or four, IIRC... Look into some of the Daytona resto threads, where they talk colors... Good luck, post pics!!!!
I'm going the route that Bullfighter recommends. I did shop it though, first with two local well known Ferrari experts and also with a shop I wasn't familiar with but came recommended by some Porshe Club members. That guy was clearly nervous about getting the dash apart which in turn made me nervous. He was showing me kit prices out of the GAHH catalog which I thought were pretty high (but aren't they all!). I ended up, somewhat to my surprise, at Symbolic Motors and they will do it just using hides and the appropriate vinyl as they did on Jon's car. I'm dropping the car off this Thursday and I'm super excited as they will be doing everything - all the leather, the full dashboard and also the "parcel shelf" and the underside of the targa roof panel. I would recommend finding a really top notch upholsterer and see what they quote on doing the job from scratch - you might be surprised!
