Has anyone purchased QV head gaskets recently, and where did you get them? I know that F-cars are expensive to maintain, but $300-$400 for a head gasket is just plain silly. Are orignal gaskets available anyomore, or has Ferrari deferred production of this critical part off to Elring? Any input would be appreciated.

Mine were part of a kit. I remember they were made by "elring." If you can find a supplier, it would be interesting what price you get. A few years ago I think I paid $200 a peice for them, but they were again part of a kit.

    Kevin,

Way back when the cars were new, a fair amount of these gaskets (including the head gasket) were made by Comico (sp?)....Anyhow, even if you could purchase an original headgasket, between the age of the "new" gasket and the "not so new and perfect" decks and head surfaces, this would not be a wise choice. Through the years, there have numerous "issues" regarding fresh engines "seeping" at the head surfaces, even by experienced, expert engine builders.

So...the best choice today...and all I'll use, whenever available, are the German made "reproduction" headgaskets. There are a far, far superior design to the OE materials and construction.

As you and I have spoken about, even considering the not so favorable exchange rate and subsequent shipping costs, Europe is the answer for most parts now....

The trend with the so called "aftermarket" parts vendors is that they are now posting "Ferrari List Prices" for non-OE, or the same aftermarket stuff that the European vendors are selling.

Example: A vendor in the mid-South is selling the identical 308 QV Elring as Superformance for $545 versus $200. This same vendor sells an upper ball joint for over $600 that can be purchased from multiple other US and foreign source for less than $200!
One might conclude that the aftermarket vendors are now selling at the Ferrari suggested retail prices...

    Lots of gouging going on!!!

Now back to our regularly scheduled program...

I've thought about setting up a parts website but I don't have time to manage it. Thought you could setup 2 price structures . . .those that pay these obscene prices and those that don't (maybe a discount code you enter you get here :)).

If someone wants to set up a web site I'll inventory all the important stuff and drop ship. Think we could match SuperP prices although if my parts supplier is reading this thread he might put an end to that ;).

In addition there's a multitude of parts I can make from scratch.
