Can I ask a question about that nut? What is the purpose of the slot around the base?

    Thanks, Franny

Normally they are panel nuts and would have a retention clip to keep it attached to the panel.

Ahhh... That totally makes sense... So, would it be like a "C" clip or those sort of "R" shaped retainers that usually through a rod? Do you have a photo?

    Thanks!

They were a butterfly type of clip that I have not seen available anywhere.

I will have to look at mine, I always assumed it was a metric C clip.

As shown, our sponsor Ricambi has these battery cover nuts, and the smaller air box nuts too

    Ricambi doesn’t send a clip.
A standard one will work. I use a hardware store C-clip on my cover plate. But if you want original, it’s the one I posted above. NLA

the closest type to the original would be a 'crimp on' style of c-clip also called an 'X washer'.

Thanks so much for all the info! That is a neat looking little clip. Can be too hard to make. I wonder why they were removed on my car... Not sure why someone would do that.

I often wonder if all those random bits I see on eBay came from my car... who has my tool kit?!?

I would think the clips are likely to get caught up in the slotted hole in the cover when the nut is unscrewed and ping off.

Thanks. I actually posted earlier, about #6, so I didn't see you pics. I don't know why the post appeared out of order - blame it on the new FChat

Lol. I’m with you. I had to relearn how to add that photo.... and it placed 2 of them. I’m not sure why they are trying to reinvent the wheel

Incidentally I ordered both from newcoproducts and Racambi. The Racambi was a better match to my 328 but the newcoproducts did not require a clip.
