    Hi All,

I understand the touchiness of this subject, so feel free to PM me instead of replying.

Some of you all know I have TopCarbon’s ‘77 308GTB with P6 cams, big Webers, etc., etc. I need to find a place that can do belts and give me an honest assessment of the car so I can prioritize work accordingly and build confidence in its reliability for weekend events/excursions. I prefer a place down here so I can get to know the mechanic and build a relationship.

Post here or PM. I will keep all PMs confidential.

    TIA
    Mark

That's the thing about mechanics, everyone will have a different opinion (especially if the customer has unrealistic expectations like so many do). That being said, I know a number of folks who go to Roselli in San Jose and are quite happy, whereas I've know some folks who won't go there:
    https://www.rosellifcr.com/

I've also heard good things about and know a couple of folks who go to Grand Prix Motors in Cambpell, but again, I also know folks who won't go there:
    https://www.grandprixmotors246.com/

I've met the owners of both of those shops and spoke with them at length when I lived in that area. I liked them both and they seemed like good guys. The only one I have experience with is Dany at Dino Motors in San Mateo. When I lived in that area, I used to take my car there exclusively. Really solid mechanics, and very - very good with the 308s. If I still lived in the area, that's where I'd still be going.

If you want to branch out a little further, there's San Rafael European in (obviously) San Rafael. I have several friends who won't go anywhere but there:
    https://sreuropean.com/

There's also the top-dollar, best-in-the-business shop, that I've heard is about six-months out on scheduling appointments. But you can't get better than Patrick Ottis (just be ready to seriously pay for it):

And my mechanic is now Rico at Valtellina Automobili in Sonoma, and I have nothing but praise for his work.

Thanks! I talked with Grand Prix and he had a backlog of several months. Wouldn’t even schedule me in. Super close to me and seems like a nice guy. I may try scheduling again.

I heard some good things about Roselli’s. But also some reservations that I’m not sure were justified.

I didn’t know about Dino and may give them a try.

Otis was strongly recommended to me by a friend who lives out there, but Berkeley is just a bridge too far.

Thanks for all the links! This helps a lot.

That's another big problem with Ferrari mechanics in the South Bay area, they're usually booked out for months. Dino Motors is pretty good at getting you in quick, I never had any issues getting reasonably scheduled there.

I sent a PM. My recommendations are based on over 35 years in the Ferrari business in the Bay Area.
There is a great deal I will not say unless face to face but have a long list of very good reasons for what I did say.
Competence and ethics are paramount. And there is a dire shortage of both. The rest is just BS.

Thanks everyone who’s posted and PM’d! I met with Juan again at GP this morning and looks like he can squeeze me in soon. He told me it would be about 3 months and he was right on target. Bonus is he’s only a couple surface streets away from me. I’m looking forward to meeting many of you on the roads soon.

Is Johannes even fixing cars anymore? I know he sold his shop.

Johannes sold the shop to Dany, who is quite capable. That's who I had been taking my car to regularly until I moved away from the area. That being said, Johannes is still there! He works on cars, but mainly only the things he wants to work on (which are usually carb'd 308s).
