anyone know anything about swoing lawn grass, we have always had sod until the house we moved into this winter, and it has terrible (builder) grass, about 80% coverage with just random types of grass in other areas. So the wifely and I are planning to sow it this weekend, we have no idea what we're doing, what type of grass ans what not. Any tips or info ??

May not corrilate to the SW, but here in the Northern Midwest here's what I do.

    1. Spread out a thin layer of top soil about 1" (we call it black dirt) and make it smooth.

    2. Spread your seeds with a spreader (I use a walk behind)

    3. Either rake over the new seeds (to sink them in the soil) or throw another thin layer of top soil over the newly laid seeds.

    4. Cover with hay or breathable mats to stop erosion, birds, wind blowing...

    5. Keep moist with water

    6. Grass shows in 5-7 days.

Up here it's mostly bent or blue grass, down there I'd have no idea...bermuda, zoya???

yeah mostly bermuda and zoy, that sounds about like what I had planned excet I'm not added topsoil. just overseeding. I hope it works because I have a rather large backyard and that much topsoil would cost a fortune

I suppose out top soil is like gold. Up here it's pretty cheap.
