Not sure that we have an "Events" page but on the basis that I went in my Daytona I thought I would try a post here. This event is only a few years old and no where near as large and busy as Le Mans Classic. We drove in and out of the circuit with minimal queues and it really felt as if it was "access all areas". No one ever told us to get out of a garage or the paddock area and we felt comfortable anywhere. And then there is the opportunity to drive the circuit itself. I am not a track person, I have had no tuition and generally do not feel comfortable on a track but even so it was an experience I will never forget. And whilst it is described as a "Parade" when I saw some of the GT40 drivers changing into race overalls, race boots and crash helmets I started to wonder. Well, it was a parade for me but a full-on track session for them. All in all, a massively memorable weekend. Some photos and a bit of video: Spa Classic 2013 - Daytona Ramblings
Of all the great road courses ever created Monaco and Spa are the last two left.Gone are the original Nurburgring, Pescara, Targa Florio, Tour of Sicily, the Ulster Tourist Trophy, San Remo Lake Garda, and the Mille Migilia in all its different routes etc. And these two couldn't be more different. Monaco is probably the best known and nearest to its 1929 original. If nothing else compare the elevation changes to any other city street course. Elevation changes are about the only thing Monaco and Spa have in common. The elevation changes a Spa are spectacular particularaly in their duration. Changes have been made in Spa which considering the high speeds of today was necessary from the point of view of safety. People forget that originaly the start finish and pit section were on the down hill slope leading into Eau Rouge where only the best went thru flat out. We have just been treated to another Monaco and what a treat it was. Spa is coming up in a few weeks. Don't miss it. tongascrew
Great pics thanks for posting. Curious what's the orange sticker/light next to the hazard switch on your dashboard?
Cheers. It's an oil pressure light. Bit of a story but I believe historically the oil pressure was slightly low in the car. I drove extensively with no issue but last year my garage made a point of getting to the bottom of it and found the reason for the low pressure was a missing crankshaft oil gallery plug. They managed to replace the plug with the engine in the car, we feared a full engine out and strip down but thankfully the solution was a lot simpler. We were not 100% sure about the light but our feeling is that this oil pressure light was installed just to keep an extra check on the pressure.
Cheers Grant. Weather on the Belgium autoroute on the way was shocking, weather coming home on Sunday in Spa was wet and really foggy, it was awful. But time at the circuit was just about OK. Big black clouds passing all the time but skirting the circuit. The car when I got home was about as bad as it has ever been, but came up OK. Bit more concours prep required though!
