We actually designed it so it could fit in the STS payload bay. That is why the wingspan is 14 '6". Not too useful now. Some good film on the second set of tests using the X-40A Space Maneuver Vehicle (SMV) our office (MSP office in AFRL) originally tested in August 1998 at Holloman AFB in New Mexico. X-37 grew quite a bit.
Where would the military, govt, nasa, ISS crew, Ukraine (starlink), etc, ....... be without Musk and SpaceX? Seriously, SpaceX came around at a critical time and delivered. Look at Boeing Starliner. The ISS will be retired by the time they're ready to send crew. ULA Vulcan Centaur with its troubled BE-4 engine is finally going to launch late tonite. Is Musk a bit of a wack job? Yes, but most geniuses are. .
YAWN ........ just another day 5/17/24 Falcon 9 rocket launches Starlink satellites on record 21st flight https://www.space.com/spacex-starlink-21st-falcon-9-launch-may-2024 what's the max number? ...... at some point refurb cost outweighs new, of course. Eventual unforeseen structural failure? These high use boosters would never be used for CREW missions. 2 other boosters both have 20 launches! .
For reusable launch sorties, we postulated 100 missions between major overhauls and 250 mission airframe life in the old Military Spaceplane office at AFRL. As long as you are not pushing mass fraction too hard, these systems can be quite tough.
Heavy launch scheduled for this afternoon, although weather not looking favorable. Duel booster recovery at the Cape planned. Year’s 1st SpaceX Falcon Heavy launch on tap Tuesday with NOAA satellite (msn.com)
I understand that someone has made a call for a SpaceX Uber from the ISS for a ride home. Something about their ride is broke and they don't have enough clothes to stay longer........
if it was easy, everyone would do it. it was supposed to be only a ground static fire test. ...... the rocket didn't get the memo. .
SpaceX set to launch Space Coast’s 50th rocket of the year (msn.com) Ariane Space hasn't had a launch in over a yr. Imagine if Space-X wasn't around to provide launch services.
First launch of new Ariane 6 rocket TODAY >>> 21:00 CEST ...... (3:00 pm EST ) https://www.space.com/europe-ariane-6-rocket-debut-launch-this-week Everyday Astronaut https://www.youtube.com/live/z1WGk5XSNXk?si=zp_iwQh6e7nZ0P4K .
successful launch, 2 solid rocket booster separation and 2nd stage ignition. >>> this rocket is fully expendable. NO re-usability. It does have the capability to stack 2 satellites in it's fairing and deliver to geosync orbit. .
well, nobodies perfect Falcon 9 rocket suffers 2nd stg engine failure during Starlink satellite launch All 20 satellites will be lost, coming back down for fiery deaths in Earth's atmosphere https://www.space.com/spacex-starlink-launch-anomaly-july-2024 .
