I can't imagine putting 200 people on that thing with no escape system. Better to use Starship for cargo only, and send astronauts on the SLS. Thoughts ?

Holy crap. That's crazy. Is it normal to cause so much damage during taekoff?

How many people will the SLS carry? The SLS uses solids, which have never been the optimum solution for manned flight.

    4. Solids actually have more power, but once lit you can't turn them off.

If the passengers and crew wore parachutes, they could jump out the doors DB Cooper style.

200/4=50. Prediction, the SLS will never achieve 50 launches.

They have been working on a new launch pad system, but not ready in time for this test. They thought (incorrectly) that the concrete that was there could survive just one launch.

Or the falcon 9’s that they’ve been shooting up for years now without issue.

Their plan is once starship is “figured out”… it will be just as reliable if not more so than falcon 9… they blew up plenty of those in development flights as well

The capsule used with Falcon 9 does have an escape system, and it only carries 4 people max.

Systems this complicated are going to have failures.

I doubt if NASA would allow that, but 7 is still a lot less than 200 if there's a failure.

Why? Space shuttle flew with max crew of 8, often with 7.

They were 'hoping' they could get away with one launch as is ('special' concrete surface. 'Fondag') before changes. Since there was no payload, rocket was light, engines were not at full throttle I believe.

    Fondag - https://www.imerys.com/product-ranges/fondag

"Highly resistant and robust, Fondag concrete is unshakeable. Nothing stands in its way; neither cold, extreme heat nor corrosion. Even under extreme conditions."

HAH!!! :p 32 Raptor engines beg to differ. :D

Yea, it's just mega cargo room for getting anything up there

Maybe the whole "occupy Mars" stuff was just Elon's crazy genius way to get people interested and supporting something otherwise mundane.
