Hi, has anyone thought of removing the spare tire for lesser weight? My friend removed his spare and left it at the dealer. Whenever he gets a flat he just calls the dealer to bring a tow truck together with his tire. Also he keeps a spare fix a flat kit.. tire gel n air pump for small punctures he can do by himself. By the way car is just used for city driving and short hi way drives

I believe the spare tire is an option. Don't think I have one.

Oh for those who didnt order the spare tire. what do you guys do when you have a flat? Call a tow truck? Or use the sealant gel? I heard that once you use the sealant gel you can no longer patch up the flat tire. In short you have to buy a new tire. Anyone have experiences? Thanks

I would not patch a tire on the 458....ever. My safety is paramount.

If you can drive without a spare you probably aren't driving too far from home and having it towed is not a big problem. Not to mention, if you do get a flat with one of these tires I'd replace it rather than repair it.

Looking back will it be a big help removing the spare from the trunk? Saves about 50lbs I think. Worth it?:)

No one has a spare - only those who deliberately added one. They presumably didn't care about the weight. Or the fact that they now can't fit luggage.

    Welcome to the board.

I have used fix-a-flat on my F355. The tire was so worn it had to be replaced. It got me to the tire store no problem.

Got a nail in the tire on the back right rear of my Porsche. Used fix-a-flat to get to the tire store. They repaired it. Still holding air and not replaced. What used to be a Z rated tire is no longer. If you are going to drive at speeds over 100 mph you must replace the tire but for "normal" driving it's fine.

Or they live in a region where that is a required option that you are forced to get due to govt regulation. Where I live spare tire and fire ext are must. You can't order a 458 without them.

None of my cars have spares except my X5M and that was an option. Most High performance cars don't come with a spare.
