Hi all, I am in the middle of still doing a lot of maintenance on my new to me F430. One of the things next up is new spark plugs. I watched a youtube video for fun to see it done (looks easy). But I see the 2 F430s I saw videos of, the coil pack is screwed down with an Allen bolt. I quickly looked at mine today, and I don't have any bolts? not even a hole for one on the valve cover. My car is a 2007, did they change something? or did I miss looking at something on my car? Here a picture of mine.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks! you know your stuff! Wonder why the change? and do you know if these just pop right out? or need to be rotated a certain way or anything?
They just pull off, do one plug at a time so you dont mix them up. Re plug spanner, glue the rubber sleeve into the socket so it does not end up on the plug, also you can get a 3/8 torque wrench in,, if you cut down the length of the extension bar so the torque wrench will fit the aftermost plug- then weld the socket to the extension bar.
Thank you. I will check the access and see while I am doing it if I can try your method. Any idea why they made this change? I assume the plugs are the same on all anyway.
I twisted mine back and forth slightly when removing them. They came out easily. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
My plugs had 15000 miles on them from the build, the service interval is over 30000. Total waste of time and money taking mine out as like new. How many miles on yours as might not need doing
I just recently changed plugs on a scud. that had the pull out coils. They were pretty clamp down and some where difficult to pull out. Make sure that when you push them back in that they product a "snap" for assurance that they are installed properly. I don't know why they changed out the earlier models of using bolts but they are much easier to remove and install.
My car has 19k miles. No record of them ever being replaced. I agree, they probably are fine, the car is running fine, but I am anal and just feel better changing everything. Don't ask! I know...
The OEM "Ferrari" boxed plugs are expensive. These seem like the exact same just not in a Ferrari box. I know there are many fake NGK plugs out there, do you guys think this is legit? https://www.ebay.com/itm/125156892867?fits=Make%3AFerrari&epid=112635697&hash=item1d23eea0c3:g:ftUAAOSw2stiEJEp
I don't know about the ebay seller that you listed but I know many has bought from the ebay seller below, me included. I hope this helps. https://www.ebay.com/itm/154597870105
Last year I changed the plugs on my 2009 with 13,500ish miles. The car was running great and the old plugs looked great. I was just concerned that they’d been in the heads for 12 years. The coils came out easily and the plugs came out easily. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Take one out for a look and if ok just look and put back, at least you will know they will not be seized in the heads after many years of never being looked at. I could see no difference in the originals to new- gaps did not need adjusting either.
I think 07 it changed, apparently its same coils as scud which i believe uses ionic knock sensing. probably to streamline production
And after replacing the plugs, what is this re learn procedure or something I saw in the workshop manual. Should I ignore that and start the car and drive as normal? or is there a special procedure I need to follow?
Just drive it There is some process you can do. but i really dont think its needed I felt no difference after new coils, plugs maybe slightly smoother
Disconnect battery..let sit for 10 mins or so .. reconnect then follow this Self-acquisition of the Motronic ECUs works correctly when the intake air temperature is higher than 5°C. Therefore make sure the external temperature is not outside the value specified. Leave the engine running for approximately 10 minutes in the following conditions: car at a standstill with engine idling; water at operating temperature; all devices off (lights, wipers, etc.); air conditioner off. According to rifledriver, you just start it up and drive it. From what i understand the fuel trims will then adjust themselves i think he said. Makes sense as only doing plugs
The re+learn procedure like that on many Ferraris( and many other makes) justs jump starts the process .. the system will adjust fuel trims eventually.. just quicker by doing procedure Sent from my moto g power using Tapatalk
