I have black spark plug extenders in my 85 QV 308. I am a little confused over what colour they really should be. Should they be red? Or can I stay with black? The reason why I'm asking this is because my car has an idle misfire that won't disappear unless the car has reached 3500+ RPM. Is this a definate result of faulty extender(s)? Or should I be looking somewhere else for the misfire?
And can anyone direct me to where I may purchase some proper extenders ASAP? I will need them soon as I am bringing my car to a show on Fathers Day.

I like the extenders sold by Kingsborne (P.N. WSP-4813 for 308QV). AFAIK, they should be black for QVs. They are Italian sourced and have a much smaller plug clip that reduces arcing.

www.kingsborne.com go to p. 41 in their catalog pdf

The weird thing is that I bought some from them within the last year and they were black for my 79 2V 308 carb car. I spoke with them on the phone and the black ones are the ones they recommended.

I have never seen a 2V with red extenders.

They work perfectly by the way.

I've used black (part #115647) in my '85 QV with success. You can get them from the usual sources (Ricambi, T. Rutlands, etc.).

A prior thread for reference that shows that the plastic color of the extender has no direct relationship to the resistance of the extender:

Maybe it did at one time, but it doesn't anymore -- use an Ohmmeter to know what you have!

What we haven't established, IIRC, with 100% certainty is which model uses what resistance extender, but I can say with 100% certainty that those models with MicroPlex ignition that use an extender (e.g., 328, 3.2 Mondial, TR) use the 0 Ohm extenders.

Yep, and the Kingsborne extenders are much more reasonably priced. That's one of the first things I did on this 328 when I got it.
