I am in the middle of changing the spark plugs on my 308, and I find what apears to be heat shields around the spark plug wire extenders.
I am missing a few, and Brian at Rutlands says my car shouldn't have these heat shields.
Does anyone else have these? They are a high temp mesh about 5 inches long with spring clips around the extender.

What is the best to set the gap at?

They are not OEM. It's an aftermarket part a lot of racers use. I used them on my old FF2000 b/c the engine area under Formula cars can get quite hot the exhaust headers are so close are right on top of the plugs/wires at the head. Not really necessary on the 308.

I use NGK BP6ES at .027 for stock ignition. .035 for electronic. Search "NGK BP" and you'll find lots of discussion on them.
