Ok, no disrespect to the company's that make beautiful spark plug boot removal tools. I changed out the plugs on my 355 yesterday...was having a horrible time... I finally got pissed off with how tough it was to remove the spark plug boots, fingers were aching. I went to our local dealership and the techs were literally using interior removal tools (plastic spatulas). In my desperation, I searched through the GF's tool box (Yeah, haha) and found one of those disposable IKEA 15mm open end wrenches. They are about 1/8 of an inch thick so really thin. The wrench part fits underneath the boot perfectly and you simply lever the plug boot out. Ya effin hoo!! No damage and worked slick as boiled owl poo. Ciao.

Before I designed ours, I used zip ties around the boot. Worked fine. Proper tools work better but getting the job done and done right is all that matters.

I once had a big problem removing the spark plug boots on another engine (longer connectors than the 348's), they were like welded on. Found out that the culprits are the spark plug connection pins - on some spark plugs, these are made of Mazak (Zamak) which softens somewhat at heat and the spring clips of the connectors get well imbedded. I now always replace the spark plug connector pins (if removable) with aluminium pins I have saved (collected) from used spark plugs and do not have the boot removal problem anymore. Mazak is melting at 700 F, aluminium at 1200 F.

Dave, I would have gladly purchased your boot remover...didn't have the time. I will definetly be sending you some work (sticky vents). Again, no disrespect, your prices are more than fair and your services are an appreciated commodity to the 355 community.

Rob, I'm not the least bit offended. You got the job done - I would have done the same. It's all good.
