Anyone know how many speakers and the size that's in a 1996 355 spider? And what brand/style of speakers have worked the best? I don't/will not cut any holes, nor I'm placing speakers behind the seats.

    Thanks in advance

I am thinking about trying a wireless speaker setup in my 1998 355. The previous owner had installed a Alpine head unit but no speaker upgrades. I am happy, though that there are no speakers cut into the doors or behind the seats, etc. The Car is very classic looking (TDF blue with crema interior). Maybe if it was a newer model I would consider a professional stereo installation, but I want to leave things stock, with no huge subwoofer boxes or speaker cutouts here and there. I am considering something like a Bose Soundlink Mini or a UE Boom. That way I could just pair it with my phone and play off of Pandora or Spotify, or connect to an IPod or other such device with a 3.5 mm jack connection. I figure the sound quality has improved a lot since 1998 speaker technology and these devices get good reviews. They are small and should be able to be placed easily. Might even just use the console between the seats or secure it at the front of the console, ahead of the shifter somehow.

The PO of my car had an audio install done by an audio shop.

They made these ridiculous subs for the behind the seats but they used an Alpine 6.5" component system that includes a midrange/bass speaker and tweeters. I haven't taken the doors apart to se how they got them in there but they put everything back together OEM. The tweeters fit behind the vents like the OEM ones and there is a small crossover box for each side about the size of a pack if cigarettes that is tucked up under the dash.

They did put an amp in the trunk. It isn't a monster size wise.

With the subs disconnected and out of the car, the rest of the system sounds very good and is plenty loud enough for me even with the top down.

The Alpine system they used was SPR-17S which looks like its been replaced by the 60C.

    Alpine SPR-60C Type-R 6-3/4" component speaker system — also fits 6-1/2" openings at Crutchfield.com

The amp they used was a pcx-4.100 which is replaced by pcx-f4.4

    Alpine PDX-F4 4-channel car amplifier — 100 watts RMS x 4 at Crutchfield.com

It is compact and not obtrusive looking.
