Why does the FIA's meteorology service suck so bad? Do the teams even bother?
It does suck, but it's sometimes accurate, so it's kind of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" type situation.
Being able to predicting the weather is like being able to predict women, it is a hit and miss game and one you will most likely end up loosing.
I used to be the chief of software engineering for a small weather company and all their work was done for Military sources.. Needless to say it was a complete crap shoot most of the time. read that teams sometimes hire planes to circle the track looking for rain so they can get exact locations of rain.
helicopters and planes and they also get predicted lightning data as well as observed and it's all sent to them live... We used to send text messages to officials pager devices for PGA tournaments when the storm was within a certain mile radius and we also set up sensors around the area...
