It's official from HW, but i think it's too expensive for a HW.

I checked with a company in Canada and apparently it is an officail Hot Wheels product. There will be the following special edition Elite 1/18s:

    599 GTB
    F430 Challenge
    FXX
    Superamerica

The FXX is limited to 2006 pieces but there is no indication as to the number issued for the other 3. One could assume they are all limited to 2006 pieces.

    Prices indicated were $229.00 CDN.

That is the next thing to find out. I would like to see one before committing that much money.

Some of the stuff I have read is wiring on the motor, real mesh, cloth (?) interior. Mostly just more detail that a regular Elite.

I have a blue Elite FXX. I would like to compare it to the limited edition prior to purchase.

I saw one in my local hobby shop, it was very nice had steel colour piping around the engine (as opposed to the elites yellowy piping) finer detail wiring etc, and just had a higher quality fit and finish. With a nicer paint job and the correct black rims. But there is no way in hell it is worth £135 more than the elite. Oh and it comes on a carbon fibre base, so it was hard to tell if the model was heavy due to use of real metal parts and build quality etc, or whether it was just the base that made it heavy.

(Heres what i wrote in the thread about the low end fxx, a gut reaction written literally after seeing the model)

I nearly bought the limited edition 'super' elite fxx (limited to 2006 pieces) because its higher detail than even the elite and more importantly its got the black wheel rims.
Only thing that stopped me was reality its £180!! thats a mark up of £130 just to get the correct rims, daft thing is, i came very close in the shop to giving in to stupidity.I mean thats more than an Exoto or cmc for a tarted up hot wheels!!? is there anyone who has more money than sense who is actually considering buying this variant?

Yeah... I have my Super Fxx Elite Ferrari on order and it should be in at the end of the month... However, it cost a little bit more that the normal Elite version... about a $120 more. Mattel will only make a very limited amounts of them...

We'd been discussing this on DiecastXChange.
To fill in the blanks, in case it isn't clear: HotWheels is now doing three different versions of 1/18-scale Ferrari models: the standard budget models (in the $25-35 range), the Elite ($50-60), and this third "super elite" version, with all the extra features alan mentioned.

Personally I think it's fine that HotWheels is making differenr versions, so long as the bottom line doesn't change. It could end up with Mattel holding back on features on the regular versions to justify the higher-priced version.

Otherwise, I'm happy they made the Elite. As for this super-elite, I don't think these are even targeted at the average collectors and enthusiats. I could see actual FXX owners buying these. (Though obviously with 2006 editions, it'll take a few more to buy up the production run.)

What remains to be seen, really, is how many models they end up making of these super-elites.
