Hi Everyone, Is this braided hose readily available at any autoparts store? Mine has started spitting oil. What is the exact specification for this hose? Thanks, Manny Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Guys, is this a standard hose? I've never picked up braided hoses before so not sure if it's something I can just run down to my local auto parts store to get.
Looks like 20mm ID cloth braided, did you measure it? If so, it is tough to find but you can easily get the standard rubber at your NAPA, etc. store BTW, your breather "T" routing is one I'm not familair with on my E series
Hi, I think that the cloth braided hose has a 20mm ID, based on measuring the OD of tee fitting and oil filler. I wasn't successful in finding that size in my searching. I know that Newco Products carries cloth braided hoses but it doesn't seem to have that ID size. Also, you can try Italian Car Parts - Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Lamborghini, Lancia, Fiat, DeTomaso but they don't list a 20mm ID cloth braided hose, or possibly G.T. Car Parts. I know that Porsche and BMW also use cloth braided hoses. Sorry, but hopefully somebody else might have a source.
This hose is readily available at any local hydraulic supply place that sells Aeroquip hose. Searching 'Aeroquip' on Google is very frustrating and it can be near impossible to get good information but what you are after is Aeroquip -8 size hose. It is a perfect match to original and any writing on it can be cleaned off with lacquer thinner and a rag. Just find a local hydraulic repair place. In Canada we have Acklands Grainger or Parker. Go in person with a piece of the hose you need and ask them for cloth braided Aeroquip. One warning. These hoses are super durable for engine oil but are not rated for gasoline. Make sure you only use these hoses for applications carrying water or oil. Good luck.
Hi Rob, You said the size is "-8". Might you take a look at this link and tell me if this is the right product? My question is 20mm = .79in. The "-8AN" size says it's .44in. Is this what I want? Catalog Thanks, Manny
The hose might have been -10 or even -12. I cannot remember right now. The Aeroquip site is a nightmare being difficult to navigate and using stock images which are confusing when trying to achieve an exact look for a hose. There is no substitute for visiting a hydraulic place and looking over their spools and spools of hose to find exactly what you are after. Just leave the Dino at home to avoid the 'Ferrari Tax'.
+1, Don't try to second guess sizes if you're not familiar with them. Perhaps take the old hose to a specialty hose shop and hand it to them and say "I need one like this for oil breather application". There are several shops in your area, this is just one reputable shop suggestion that worked for me: HOSE-MAN Locations
I quit showing my cars for judging based on a cloth braided hose. I admit, I am a cry baby when it comes to such stuff, especially on older cars. My car had the ORIGINAL hose with the ORIGINAL cloth covering. I was docked points because the hose covering looked "Tatty". I was being judged in an "Originality" group. One of the judges was some one who sales "Original" stuff.... Just saying... Shawn
