So this goes out to all of the those who participate in this forum, both experts and novices. I recently had the benefit of a protection relay issue on my 85 QV which was a bit tricky to trouble shoot. Finally traced it to this problem after reading several threads that spelled my symptoms specifically. I really got to hand it to Steve M. Dude, you are awesome!! Dan, you rock too!

Thanks so much for all posts, as that educated me to the point to fix this situation myself and learn a great deal further about my car.

Damn, after a few glasses of wine I think I get a bit emotional. Love my car!!!! Was able to take my wife for a ride for our 22nd anniversary this weekend after fixing it up this week. Thanks to all of you.

John, great to hear you got it sorted and are back on the road.

    How was Carmel?

Glad that you got it sorted John -- did you have to do the 5-pin to 4-pin conversion dance, or had your protection relay already been replaced with the later version?

I did do the conversion to the 4 pin. worked out great. Mapping instructions made it easy. I got the relay from a Porsche OEM supplier. I also replaced most of the other relays while I was at it.

    Thanks again.

Thanks for the feedback -- a 28 year life isn't horrible for a protection relay, so "normal" replacement in the scheme of things IMO...

Carmel was great. Always nice down there. Great weather and great food! I rented a tandem bike with my 10 yr old son which was a kick. Never done that before.
