Speciale Inspection

Hello everybody,

As per my usual procedure, I usually take an hour in the garage to thoroughly inspect my cars after delivery. Now today, since it was my first f car, I found something worrying. At the dealership, I already found that the left diffuser fins were scratched. Now at home I found that the paint was poorly applied on the underside of the car and also these tubes. Please advise as I do not know if this is normal or not.

The tubes? Or the paint?

 

the paint picture looks like some sealant that is smeared on ("applied"). We've had it on a few of our cars...not elegant but no issues.

The tube is a drain tube; hard to tell which one that is, but the car has various drains that vent under the car. You can trim it back with some shears, just make sure it is long enough to drain out and not inside.

IMOP: Drive the car, you'll really enjoy it. Don't get stuck on the little stuff, or you'll never enjoy it. You're not going to put this car on the lawn at Pebble.

 

Whew thank you for the feedback! I thought the dealership had scraped the underside and tried to repaint it cause the left rear diffuser fins were scratched. This is very good news! I love the car but I also have an eye for the finer details lol

 

Those drain tubes (underbpdy) can be seen on the 458 as well. They are lower than the underbody panel. I was wondering about them. what happens if they can caught on something?

 

Drain tubes (Rubber hose) are for excess fuel if you overfill at the pump or to drain excess water from the air intakes before the deposited water enters the filter box?

 

Is your car yellow? If so then its pretty common to have overspray on some structural members. If not then maybe its the lighting / what was said about likely cosmoline (protects against the salt air in transport). The tubes are normal. I've always been amused that they worry so much about aerodynamics, yet they leave these sloppy tubes hanging down at varying lengths. The scrapes on the diffuser could be from transport, the dealer, who knows. They should try to fix that for you.

 

Yes it's giallo Modena. I asked my dealer and they said it was for rust protection and usually after a couple months it becomes hard and not sticky. The diffuser they will replace the fins and one day I'll probably trim the tubes. Thanks for all your feedback!!

 

You have to pay extra for attention to detail and for body panels to fit correctly.

 

^ +1 Really thought Ferrari would have the same attention to detail as some of the other brands like mclaren but nevertheless I do believe I made the right decision buying the speciale and not the 650s.

The paint was so bad it also got the full Monty paint correction; but I wasn't going to mention it

 

Perhaps give it a miss, it ain't going to be pretty.

The bodies are robot painted these days as I understand it. Start removing panels and it's interesting that you will find whole areas unpainted that are normally unseen. If they are robot painted that was programmed in. They won't suffer corrosion as they have the undercoat and corrosion treatment; but it's pretty ugly. It must be a cost saving measure- less materials used over 15,000 or so units pads the bottom line I guess.



In the first 2 pics you can see the front subframe and other areas are unpainted. In the last pic you can see the chassis member under the engine is unpainted.

Was the panel fit rectified by the supplying dealer or did you have it done at your own expense?

 

The dealer was happy to fix it under warranty; but I had it fixed by the shop that did the stripes while it was there. I couldn't be bothered with more delays.

Welcome to the Ferrari world! If you want exceptional craftsmanship and perfection.... Buy a Porsche or a Mercedes. The Ferraris of today are much better than the older generations with factory overspray, fingerprints in the paint, etc

The lack of paint on non exterior body panels and framework is surely for weight savings.

 

The amount you are talking about saving would be lucky to be a few hundred grams. In these areas we are not talking about multiple layers of material. The areas that are coated have nothing more than a slight blow over of paint. Very rough and ready indeed.
Even the hand sprayed black colour in the engine bay is spasmodic and all over the place.

 

Was a bit disappointed with the finish/lack of attention to the secondary parts of the body on the production line, looked like the paint applied in these areas was purely overspray.....
