I wonder what is the loudest exhaust on market which is produced for 458 Speciale ? I am thinking to change my OEM to very loud , maybe even not suitable for street . Anyone can suggest ? full setup ? also thinking not to change OEM headers . only cats and silencer
I installed the FI Exhaust (Ultimate Race) on mine and its just perfect!!! kept everything stock...its perfect from idle all the way up....sounds like the way F1 cars should!!! MJ
You have OEM headers and Cats ? Is it really loud? cause on video which I saw , sounds close to OEM sound.
To be loud, you'd need to take off the cat. Screaming depends on muffler. Since Speciale revs all the way to 9,000 rpm, there is a potential to come very close with XX cars' sound. I'd say...JUST DO IT.
so you suggest just to take off OEM cats and put Test pipes with 02 sensors ? without changing back OEM exhaust ? about CEL will it come or not ?
You will throw a CEL with test pipes. You will probably need an ecu tune too. I would start out with 200 cpi race cats by Capristo or Fabspeed (may not throw a cel) and add a Capristo valve controller to the stock exhaust box so you can keep them open when at low rpm. The car will also burp and pop when slowing down/downshifting when the valves are kept open.
I did a set of 200cell sport cats from Fabspeed, Novitec cat-back system with no baffles, and a carbon BMC air filter. It sounds AMAZING!! I'll post a video once weather warms up...
I tested the Novitec Inconel Version without Flaps and with 100 CEL Capristo Cats. too crazy loud and I had to move back to OEM for not getting arrested....
about 100 cell , 200 cell what is the difference , which is will be louder with 100 or 200 ? also about heat protection , cause price is twice more with heat, should i really need it ?i will not use car at maximum about test pipes ? NOVITEC TECTRONIC article no. F1 458 80 to use with NOVITEC sport metal catalysts or NOVITEC cat replacement pipes to avoid error indications from the catalysts i think it will work , and no CEL light? also i don't really understand which option is better, 1)change to test pipes and leave oem exhaust , (with Novitec tectronic) 2)change to 100 cel cat and leave oem exhaust, 3)change to 100 cel and change to capristo or novitec back exhaust ?
The biggest sound increase to be gained is by replacing the cats. The stock cats are 800cell which are very restrictive. In most cases going to 200cell will not trigger CEL but be aware that there is a slim chance that it can. If you go to 100cell cats or cat-deletes it will definately trigger a CEL. In addition to the cat mod, adding a cat-back system will slightly amplify the sound. My Novitec made it a bit louder and also a little deeper. Hope this helps...
I was struggling with the same question as you. I very carefully read what Chrixxx had to say about all the various exhaust configurations he tried on his Speciale. He gathered some good information. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/458-italia-488/465931-speciale-sound-crisis-5.html I decided to take an incremental approach. I think everyone agrees that replacing the OEM cats makes the biggest change to the exhaust (volume and pitch). My strategy was to first replace the OEM cats (which are 800 cells) with either 100 or 200 cell cats and leave all other exhaust components unchanged. If I sent satisfied my next incremental step was to replace the OEM back box (silencer) with Frequency Intelligence Ultimate Race (or Novitec, etc.). I was pretty sure that I could find a way to make the Speciale sound great without having to use the nuclear option (test pipes). I decided to start with Capristo 200 cell cats with O2 simulators and heat blankets. Voila. Perfect solution...for me at least. The O2 simulators seem to work as claimed...no CELs. You could try just changing the cats. You just be completely satisfied. If not then you can proceed from there.
I was thinking of doing the same. What's the cost of going with 200 cell cats with 02 sims? Live in Canada...where do you purchase the cats for the Speicale?
I kept all else OEM, to me it sounds great...I really don't want to get any CEL's and or play around with the headers....I think it sounds great...its more than loud enough. The scream is amazing. MJ
I think I paid around $3.8K for my 200 cell Capristo cats with O2 simulators and heat blankets. James McKibben - Sales Manager Vivid Racing 1429 W Scott Ave Gilbert, AZ 85233 Tel: 480.966.3040 - Ext: 249 www.vividracing.com [email protected]
There's a good chance that you will be completely satisfied with this first step. To me the exhaust sound is a very important part of driving experience. I'm glad it only took a relatively simple and inexpensive replacing of the cats to achieve such a fantastic result.
Yes...keep the stock muffler box, add the 200 cpi cats and also the valve controller. That is a prudent way to start.
But what is the difference ? Cats with heat or without heat protection ? Should I really need it with ? Cause I will not use for full my car ! Thanks
