To add to that, I know dealers will alert any interested party in an upcoming arrival, many times such cars do not even make it to the dealer website before they are sold. They definitely are proactive.

That is how I got my 458 Spider years ago. I told my SA I wanted one in Triple Yellow and over the course of a couple months he made calls to their other clients with that type of car and one of them “gave in” and sold (was going through a divorce as I was told).

I've bought two cars on BaT, both from private sellers, which in Arizona means no sales tax. I can tell you what motivated me to buy on BaT: honest, complete descriptions of the car in question, without any of the dealer puffery/concealment/chicanery. Moreover, BaT attracts one unicorn after another, and in the case of a private party, there is a culture of transparency and comradery. Its great entertainment, even when I'm not bidding.

BTW, I've bid on a number of cars, and I've never let anyone egg me on to pay more money than I wanted to. I also note skepticism about the BaT phenomenon and whether the deals really happen...all of the deals I'm familiar with close, and usually within 24 hours. The post above, where a clear allegation that the deal didn't close was countered by the actual buyer of the car in question made me laugh out loud. BaT is changing the market for the better. The only people who don't like it seem to be dealers.

Is the Dino matte? Or is that matte XPEL?

Seems like some sort of matte ppf since the doorjambs look glossy. Plus, the paint sticker states straight up Dino.

That Rosso Dino car has been for sale every couple years (ZFF75VFA8F0212815) if I correctly recall: mostly in Seattle and Austin...It has a 'heritage' interior that is quite unique.

I'm sure its uniqueness is part of the elevated ask...

Sounds like BaT is good for selling but for buying maybe not so much. The spec on many cars at guru or cars.com aren’t great. Maybe BaT gets better spec’d cars. Seems weird to me.

At these prices, it’s really making me think twice about tracking my STO. I was lucky enough to get one with the intent to enjoy it on the road and track. I don’t know how many folks have been on a track, but the chances of an ‘event’, however small, increase exponentially.

I’ve started tracking the 458 a bit where the stakes are considerably lower, but for those of us wanting to really drive these cars in different circumstances, their limited availability and high values makes it a real conundrum.

So there is a downside to this insanity.

Absolutely! In fact, the only people seeing any upside are owners SELLING Speciales. There is zero upside for those of us keeping them forever. While the warm fuzzies of validation are nice, it will in no way make up for the PITA it'll be to replace this car if/when something happens to it.

Love the seats! I think the stock ones will last longer, but I miss leather racing seats.

but, that one, no suspension lifter...I've noticed over the years those without the lifter are slower to sell...better to have it and never need it than to need it and it's not there

I guess it also depends on where you live. I have a Speciale coupes no lifter and my Aperta does have a lifter. Here in SoCal I don’t think it’s necessary. Speciale and previous 16M did Not have lifter and it was fine.

Same here in Northern CA… mine doesn’t have a lifter and has not been an issue at all.

Plus, I think having a lifter goes against the whole ethos of the Speciale anyway.

Plenty of streets everywhere can have issues, driven some SoCal neighborhoods that have deep dips at every intersection...(for drainage), got caught up in one long ago, wish I had a lift back then, had to take them at a steep angle

Wonder what it gets, they couldn’t sell it at $540k on their listing… let’s see if the bat magic does it again
