Speciale: Too Much Carbon? (Special Original Owner)

    Hi, I recently and finally managed to find a Speciale that ticked all of my boxes… however I think the owner (1) is more ‘special’ than the car itself :)


    The car had too much carbon parts on it when I first went to view it. Then I quickly learned that the owner:


    A - He specced every possible carbon option on the configurator


    B - He also ordered the ‘non carbon’ equivalent part of every panel and part that he had specced in carbon, so that he would have those too, just in case.


    C - He also ordered every possible OEM carbon part that Ferrari had for the 458, that were not available on the configurator for the Speciale, but were available to the Italia and the main 458 race car, that Ferrari raced in.



    So not only did I get the car… but I have a room full of lots of OEM Ferrari parts in large boxes, with many of them still sealed.


    My OCD can’t decide which parts I want in carbon and which parts I should change :)


    The car is going into Ferrari next week, so I am thinking of changing the following parts to ‘non carbon’ as they were not available on the Speciale configurator:


    - Carbon Side Shield (I really want to put back the yellow OEM shields)

    - Carbon Door Handles

    - Carbon Fuel Cap


    And finally the carbon mirrors… but I can’t decide if I should leave these.


    I think the carbon mirrors work very well with the black stripe and the rest of the carbon parts BUT I can’t help thinking the car would look better with the original OEM red mirrors… and it would probably make the car look wider and lower with the read extended out.


    What would you go for with the mirrors… carbon or OEM red?

    I’d say this is just personal preference. If it were me and I was changing everything back to get to absolutely originality, like you’re doing with the other parts, I’d go ahead and do the mirrors as well.
    If you don’t mind slightly modified with OEM Ferrari parts, leave whatever you like. If there’s one non-speciale available part on the car, then it’s “slightly modified”. Just a matter of 100% original VS not.
    I personally don’t have an issue with tasteful modifications, with parts that were available to order from Ferrari, even if not available on that model, as long as….it’s easily reversible and I have the original parts.

    She's a beauty congrats!!! All personal preference. Spec it to make yourself happy. If you're not sure, live with it as-is for a while, and the path forward will become clear over time.

    All I know, is the 458 Speciale & 488 Pista are two of the most beautiful modern Ferraris ever made. Full stop.

    As others have said, its all personal preference. For me, I agree with your plan. Do you plan on selling the extra 458 carbon fiber parts the seller purchased?

    I agree with your thoughts on removing those extra carbon parts with paint. I love carbon when it replaces black plastic but I think the car looks much better with red mirrors, door handles, fuel cap and absolutely change the shields back.

    You could leave the mirrors for now and see what it looks like with the other parts changed back to red. You can always change them at a later stage if you still aren't happy with them.

    I’d actually like to add more carbon to my speciale. The front vents and either full underdoor covers or just the winglets. I think the fuel cap AND door handles are too much, but if it was just fuel cap, sure. I was hoping he had the floors in carbon too. lol!

    Congrats on your purchase.

    Switch the shields and fuel cap, keep the door handles and side mirrors. Those look great
