My good friend in Tokyo recently ran over some road 'studs' and bent the Gemballa/BBS 3 piece rear wheel on his 996. Not knowing any specialist wheels workshop he's stuck w/ talking to an exotic car garage in Azabu who's proposing getting a brand new wheel from Gemballa for around US$3.5k!!! Looking at the picture of the damage, I would imagine in worst case one can just order the outter rim on this 3 piece wheel if it's really not repairable?

    It's a Gemball/BBS? 19 x 11.5 wheel w/ ET27 offset.

Any recommendation for wheel specialist in/around Tokyo would be highly appreciated...

That looks like it might be irreparable, you could order a new outer rim however who knows if gemballa will actually sell one. These days its hard to get even the custom forged wheel companies to sell you a new outer rim to replace, since it takes a qualified shop to remove and replace the new lip plus correctly torque the fasteners and seal the wheel.

On a side note, why are aftermarket parts so damn expensive in Japan? Is there some import tax for parts that are manufactured overseas?

ouch. you could visit Gemballa in HK to see if they can help order an outer rim.

At least your friend's wheel doesn't look like this one...

TMS is not bad. Not sure he would want to repair the damage on that wheel - looks pretty bad.

Perhaps you may have the phone number? I would imagine the easiest way to do it is to order the outer rim given the 3 piece design so thought it was a bit of overkill to order the whole rim...

Well, I'm not sure if it's really the case of parts being expensive or my friend just talking to the 'wrong' person...
