    hi everybody

i've never done a PPI before, and since my search for my first ferrari is heating up, i would like to understand at what point the PPI is done. is it after aggreeing to buy the car and making the purchase contingent on a successful PPI?

what happens if major issues are discovered during the PPI, can i walk away? who pays for repairs discovered during a PPI? i assume the buyer pays for the PPI?

sorry for such basic questions--a quick search on the site did not reveal any answers.

    thanks
    john

    John,

PPI's are usually the expense of the purchaser. It is something that you request be performed before the purchase. As far as the potentential repairs go, they are negotiable upon the sale price. YES you can walk away at anytime, you are the buyer.

A thorough PPI will include MOST IMPORTANTLY a leakdown and compression test, as well as your baics inspection....including, paint, tires, brakes, electrical functions, possible previous damage etc etc etc.

If you provide your location Im sure other members will chime in with recommendations on good PPI shops.

    Good luck with the search.

One often overlooked item (don't ask me how I know) is the removal of the cam covers for a close inspection for cam wear and on the early V-12s wear to the adjuster screws and the collapse of the end of the valve stems where the adjuster screws contact. This will add some to the price of the PPI but is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost to replace the valves.

If it's been regularly serviced at Ferrari of Atlanta, call the service manager Chris there and ask him about the car. They'd also be a good source for the PPI, or if you want it done by an independent shop, consider using Flashback Motors there at ph: 770.781.8989
