    Hi all,
currently I have a project being built which is a F40 GTE based on a Kyosho F40 leightweight model in 1/18.
I'm trying to be as accurate as possible to the GTE specs.
I thought I might ask the Ferrari nuts on here for features I have overlooked to be included in the build.
I have full faith in the builder, I'm only asking for minor details that could add to the overall accuracy of the final piece.
OK - The usual change are:
Body - Rear wing, rear diffuser, front splitter, air ducts on hood, painted red with a few sponsor decals but no livery, sheet metal square around exhaust, lowered
Wheels - ENKIE 5 spoke with Pirelli racing slicks, carbon ceramic brakes
Interior - stripped, sequential gearbox, 4 point Sabelt seatbelts
Engine - larger intercoolers (painted red), cross brace over engine, correct exhaust, - air intake nozzle to the waste gate valve, flexible tubes from the oil coolers left and right from the gear box.

Here's a pic of the progress:

If anyone has any suggestions/ideas of how to make this a more authentic GTE, please feel free to add to this list.

    Cheers.

Nice job, I am a little bit jalous but I will try to help!

As I was the happy owner of such jewel (#88779), don't hesitate to ask me anything, in the same time, have a look on the f40gte thread in the supercar forum, you will see a lot of pictures of LM and particularly F40 GTE. I will try also to send you many pics of my previous car by PM.

Good luck for this project and post as many pics as possible!

good start! I am not sure regarding the black strip around the car, but we will see the final result, and then I will make critics!

Here are pics of the finished piece. I think the builder did an amazing job.
    Features of the build:
    - entire exterior re-done and repainted using the APM LM transkit, scratchbuilt wider rear wing and front splitter
    - enkie 5 spoke rims with Pirelli racing slicks, brembo brakes and slotted discs
    - engine entirely re-done with larger intercoolers, exhaust system, fuel pumps, plumbing, and other details (Intercoolers painted red as seen on a real F40 GTE, I liked the contrast it made with the exterior paint)
    - interior re-done with sequential gearbox, new racing seats with harness, racing pedals, fire extinguisher, roll bars, console and dashboard switches, wiring

Remember this started out as a Kyosho F40 leightweight!
Thanks to Dominique for his reference pics. I have used inspiration from his GTE and other pics of GTEs for features that I liked and added to this model.
    Hope you enjoy it.

    He does excellent work.
I almost forgot to thank Wolfman for referring him to me. It has been a long time since this project was first thought about. Thanks Wolfman!

Interresting! very nice job in fact, even if some details should be different in my opinion (big box on top of the exhaust, intercoolers different from big behr ones, ...) but the level of realization is quite perfect, where do I have to order? lol
    Great job.

    Hi, great model and build!

I also bought the APM transkit and the Kyosho F40 lightweight and have a few questions.

To get the rear wheels off I had to break them off the metal axle. Did you experience the same problem? Otherwise compared to the 308 it was relatively easy to take the model apart (safe for two screws hidden below the engine).

I test fitted the APM body parts. The nose fits perfectly (but some cutting on the spare wheel well will be necessary). The bottom plate fits quite good too but the engine cover doesn't. It's not wide enough compared to the center section of the body and the rear window doesn't fit well. Did you use the APM cover or the original Kyosho one?
Some parts seem to be missing in my APM kit. There are no mirrors (but I did buy the correct ones seperately) and it seems there are no clear covers for the headlight pods. Did you need to make those covers yourself?

Also one small critic on the size of the headlights. They seem a bit too small. Maybe I'll be able to use bigger ones from a donor car.

    Thanks, Peter

    Hi Peter,
I didn't build the model myself. I got Manfred from Mondial-models.com to build it for me.
You can maybe contact him if you would like to know about the details if he's not busy.
From what I remember, he mainly used most of the Kyosho metal parts and just cut and inserted the resin features onto the Kyosho body - as the full resin parts such as the engine hood just didn't work.
Manfred used the origional mirrors (I think) and just mounted them in the correct higher position.
The headlight cover was custom made.
Yes the headlights are a bit smaller, but on the completed model it doesn't look too bad. If I do this model again I would ask for them to be bigger.
