A friend of mine in Argentina, Clemar Bucci, who used to race 750 Monzas with Fangio & Prince Behra back in the 50's just built this car in Buenos Aires.

This is the 1st of 4 cars & its built old school style with a wire frame & hand beaten aluminum panels. This one has a real 300SL frame & engine

The next 3 will have the engine out of a 220 SL I believe.

I will help him sell it here in the US. He is sending me all the details soon.

MB liked plaid back then, I think some 300 SLs also have plaid interiors

This 1 has the giant airbrake under the fairings behind the cockpit. On the real 300SLRs this fairing would rise on braking as an aero assist. It made a great WHUMP sound when it went up

In the 1960s FIA outlawed movable aerodynamic devices becaus ehwen they didnt work as intended it would result in serious accidents.

I think w todays digital tech they could be brough back, I think they would be fun to watch :)

The SLR has to be one of the sexiest road-going racecars of all time. Very cool of your friend. Any ideas to cost?

The 300 SLR takes the cake in the unobtainable automobile stakes....alas I don't think I have the money to afford even a replica especially if it's built in it's original way.
BTW, the plaid seats are normally referred to as 'Tartan' and it's even present to this day in the CLK GTR. Normally the preserve of the Silver Arrows cars and as far as I know, not connected to any Scottish clan!

    Very nice !!!

The only downside is that people (enthusiast) will know that you are driving a replica since the real thing is unobtainable.

    Dont know about the doors

My friend told me that he wants to drive the car on a Spanish race track where the original won and he is courting some celebrity buyers

Price, I would guess at least $300k

I heard an original sold for $20M a few years ago

I heard the buyer of the original car owned a bank in Germany & had a private Boeing 747 :)
