Actually, makes sense. It's very difficult to get a new "channel" in all the cable companies and sat box systems signed up. If you have one already there, it's easy to switch programming as long as its "similar". So, if you want to start a sports channel from scratch, it's better to just buy one (or convert it).

This is how Discovery Kids became "The Hub". Hasbro bought the channel and now runs endless My Little Pony cartoons on it.

Quality motorsports channels have gone the way of the dinosaur as have a few of the great racing series, IMSA - Group B etc etc. Frankly I am just happy that F1 is still aired in the US.

Definitely my favorite show when I'm passing time at the kart track waiting for a clear track. When I learned the name, I thought it was funny that that is what I'm doing when I watch. :D

Its one of the better US made shows I've seen in recent years, I don't watch much TV though. I don't like the "dramatized" editing that comes with most "reality" TV shows. The one with just a few days to build a car is absolutely terrible. I don't even want to listen to it.

Part of me is frustrated with this, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that there is almost nothing to watch on that channel anymore. I miss speedvision.

Just a bunch of NASCAR crap the last few years. No biggie. As long as Formula 1 can be found somewhere on the dial I'm indifferent to the change. Maybe they'll add something besides NASCAR nothingness.

I'd have to agree. Now I watch Velocity. I only watched Speed for F1 coverage. My 36 hours of viewing a year probably didn't pay many bills there. :)

    Lost Drive-In!

I guess this explains a lot about why they're out of F1. I wonder if they even bid on it.

Speed recently had Goodwood FoS and Revival, so I hope some other channel will pick that up.

Wasn't Speed running a combined "Speed" and "Fox Sports" logo during the last couple of F1 races?

Looks like NBC Sports will be carrying the Dakar again, this year (as daily updates), as well as picking up F1.

But I haven't been happy with Fox since they canceled "Firefly". ;)

Good programming on Speed such as Goodwood FOS and
Revival seems lost in a sea of NASCAR and "reality"
    nonsense.

It's unexplainable why Speed chooses to air important
series highlights such as DTM, FIA GT, WTCC this time
of year rather than live or in edited format a week after
    a race.

It's obvious NASCAR has sucked out what little life is left
of Speed and the other networks they're contractually obligated
to. Their "stick & ball" competition have their own networks
(NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc.) so why dosent NASCAR put it's
    balls on and do likewise?

the latest bs...Fox aka Speed Ch. has put a 'recording block' on the Euro racing programs
like Porsche SuperCup, DTM, FIA, etc.
Can NO LONGER record/dub these races from DVR to DVD, to watch later.

The ONLY positive...Nascar is DYING a slow death!

Just do what I have done for the past 30+yr's and keep it 'old school" with VHS. I have over 50 tapes for those 'rainy days of insuffereable cable programing'.

Use the S-Video analog cords from the DVR to the DVD burner. No HD, but no DRM, either.

But if you're only time-shifting them, just plug an external disk into the DVR's USB port to expand your storage space.

I also have my DVR / Sat receiver set to use the SD feed channels rather than HD. That takes about 1/6 the disk space of the HD feeds.

I'd originally set up to save races on DVD-RW so I could review them during the season, and record over them next year, but I find I have no desire to review past races after a week or so. So I just keep them on the DVR's drive and delete them after a week or two.
Mostly, now, I only record so I can start watching an hour into the race and -- skipping over the commercials -- get to the end about the time it's live. ;)

    DGS,
    thx for the tips!
I like to watch w/o commercials also.
But, when the future gives us ONLY electric car racing...I will be able to savor a 458 CH at WOT!

That is when it all went to hell. NASCAR bought in and it became the NASCAR channel, and oh by the way, we will give 5 hours a week to other racing.

When Speedvision started I remember watching European races at night which included the likes of BTCC and DTM. Those were the days. Loys of motorcycle road racing too.

Sad, but it is all gone now.
