I'm sure most of you with DirecTV know this already, but Speed just began (like this week) broadcasting in High Definition. There are two Speed channels numbered 607... one SPD and one SPDHD.

If you have an H20 or HR20 and a HDTV, make sure you are watching in High Def. You'll probably be more easily able to see the tears on Alonso's face after the loss tomorrow :)

What satellite box do you have? And do you have the HD dish (the 5-LNB wide dish)?

    To get HD you need..

    1) HD Television
    2) HD Satellite box (model HR20 or H20)
    3) HD DirecTV service ($10/mo over normal service)
    4) TV running in HD mode (most new TVs auto switch, some older ones need manual switch)

If you go into the program guide, you should see channel 607 listed twice, once as SPD and once as SPDHD. If you punch in 607, if you are using a HD box, it should auto-tune to the HD channel. You only see both channels when you go into the program guide.

    Hope it helps!

I have a HDTV, HD service and the right dish. I even called Direct TV and had that little filter installed for all the new HD channels a month or so ago.

I have other HD channels but not speed. I will have to look into it.

The channel is great...now all we need is for the events to be filmed in hd ;)

Most of the other big broadcasters are probably waiting until more events/programs are taped in HD before they pickup the additional channel.

I think by the end of 2008 we'll have close to 100 decent HD channels available, should be nice, and should be really nice once everything is recorded in 1080p!

Gotta have the right dish too.

And you have to have the latest greatest HD receiver. The one you got 6-12 months ago won't do it. Also the dish, I think has to be an lnb5 most are lnb3. You'll get some, but not all of the new hi def channels until you upgrade your tuner and your dish.

Hmmm try calling them again. Are you seeing other channels in HD? Go into the program guide - do you see two channel 278's? Two 284's? There should be the normal DSC for Discovery and DSCHD. If you are not seeing them, are you sure you have an H20 box? They shot an update to the boxes several weeks ago that made the program guide very slow, but just recently updated it again. You may need an update to see the new HD channels? Not sure.

You also need the 5-LNB dish. If you don't have like 3 little things sticking out on your dish then you dont have the 5-LNB one.

Good luck - let us know how it goes.

Well after spending over an hour on the phone today they are coming out to change my dish early next week. It is the correct one but they said for some reason it is not allowing the new programming to work.

    Thanks Mike for the help.
