I'll be driving through Belgium on my way to Germany in July. How harsh is Belgium as far as speeding on their highways? Back in the late 80's, I remember a friend who used to drive in excess of 150mph with little concern. Have things changed or not? Are there certain sections that are "safer" as far as not getting caught?

    speed limits are 120 km/h
but as a foreigner, the maximum ticket you can obtain is 175 euro's i believe.

that said, highways are bad quality due to immense heavy lorry traffic. better keep safe speeds, cops are often ready to strike and roads are rather busy during daytime

Went on a trip to Brugges a few months ago, everywhere i went the locals told me the cops are harsh on tourists speeding, so i never really did any excess speeds !

    Beware!
Belgian fines are high! As a foreigner you have to pay them directly.
    Speedlimit is 120 km/hr.
In Flandres there are many speedtraps, in Wallonie there are only a few.

    I just paid a 150 euro fine for driving 129 on a 120km/hr road.

CRIMINAL!!!! Driving 129 is really a shame!!

Just kidding........ that's a "huge" money for just 9km.
Then it is still cheap here in Holland.

    I paid 87,50 euro's 2 weeks ago in Germany for 150km where 100km allowed.
(Rheinbrucke in Dusseldorf). As a forigner I had to pay cash or by CC.

Wow, have not seen real police stop anyone in Germany, only speed cameras - from which unfortunately I have 3 tickets - fortunately (knock on wood) being American I can forget to pay without any repercussions

As far as Belgium, hmm, must be why noone was driving faster than 130,
except me ;) .... ditto for France ;))

In the .US there is police everywhere - enjoying the freedom you could say
