Hoping for the best going forward!!! The biggest problem with being on Speed was that at anypoint in time, Nas/Busch-Whatever would take priority. I'm thinking going to an NBC sports channel would gain more US exposure due to NBC being more widely available than Speedtv in some markets. I am also hoping NBC takes the time to also explain and do small features on some of the history behind the sport and why it is so addictive to us fans who support it. Crazy idea, but have NBC run Senna on TV before the Austin race or as a Sunday night film the weekend before the Superbowl?

Unfortunately, F1 will always be competing with Nascar, MLB, NBA and the NFL. I think if the could expose some of the same viewers you might get some cross over. Also, if people knew that races are a 2 hour max....I think you would see a HUGE jump in support for F1. I know that was one of the major selling points to my wife, as silly as that should sound, but people simply have other things in there lives they need to do. You want to be a fan, but not everyone has 6 hours to watch cars go in circles.

Frankly, this sucks. Look what NBC did to the Olympic games! The entire two weeks were filled with short clips of random scenes from random events. Nothing was live.

Well, as long as qualifying and races are broadcasted on TV, I'm fine. I might even be able to drop the DISH subscription one level below, since I only upgraded for Speed. And the only thing I watch on Speed is F1. Oh, and I DVR the races, so I don't care about being live or delayed :D.

As somebody said, it can't get any worse than Speed, so we only have to wait to see how better it gets. And I prefer to see new blood, not those old timers. Let them enjoy retirement along with Schumacher < he he>. Have a good one folks.

Listening to Hobbs mention the number of networks he's been with it sounded like he's interested in an NBC gig.

I am 68 and have watched F1 on ABC, ESPN, Speed, Fox, C-band with a 10 foot dish the
Canadian feed, live feeds and live.

Personally with the exception of rain Live is the best (even though to see the whole race always watched the race again on TV).

Speed has/had the most complete coverage and is next best to being there.

Fox, ABC and ESPN (even though the guide said live, I found most of the races were delayed about an hour, the live feed vs the broadcast) did not show practice and qualifying. ESPN was the only one to show all of the races. ABC showed Monaco and maybe Monza. I keep thinking CBS maybe tried Monaco too.

If NBC does cover F1 with a local channel I will have to switch to Dish as Direct does not have my locals in HD.

I am hoping that NBC's coverage will be as good as Speed's, but I am not holding my breath.

The problem with speeds broadcasters are(feel free to add to the list)
-they are not at the races
-they are too boring/conservative in their commentary. I also have the feeling they know a lot more about whats being said in the garages. The garage talk is were the good stories are. These guys cant tell a story.

Not true. We know the BBC & Sky both have crews on site at all races. I'm not sure about the other "big" Euro markets, but am pretty sure at least Germany & Italy also have folks at the track. (?)

I assume it comes down to how much you're willing to pay the Pygmy - A price for the "raw" world feed that Speed (and I'm sure many other small markets) take and another if you want "full access".

    Cheers,
    Ian

NBC would be wise to bring on Hobbs and Matchett. There aren't too many ex F1 racers or mechanics in the US who have broadcasting experience, AFAIK. :)

I agree but remember that the current network success formula relies on snarky judges and teary amateurs.

+1 Hobbs and Matchett are great, the BBC does not attend all of the races either. One of my favorites was listening to Murray Walker and James Hunt broadcasting the South African GP pretending to be there and Hunt being so fed up with the South African politics, said "Thank god we are not there!", needless to say the BBC was not impressed.

I truly hope we still get to watch qualifying and practice, but I am not holding my breath. It is amazing how poor the programming on the SPEED Channel has gotten over the years, the only shows I still watch are the F1 broadcasts. Speedvision was fantastic, but after F1 leaves SPEED, I doubt I will even tune in the channel.

I'll defer to our UK cousins, but I believe they're still actually at all the races - They just don't broadcast 'em all live. But at the least they do a delayed highlight show available via their iPlayer a few days afterwards. (?)

    Cheers,
    Ian

For all the whining we do (and the BBC & Sky do spoil you) they're not that bad IMO.

Hopefully, NBC will up the ante and send a crew to the races etc - Try and make a success of their new contract - Certainly, Sky pushed the boat out for example.

    Cheers,
    Ian

F1 races on MSNBC with post race analysis by Rachel Maddow...

I have watched 2 races this year on speed. The rest on the web... with bbc / sky coverage. The coverage better be good,... or even more fans will abandon TV.

very sad. the races will be boxed for mainstream consumption.
    forget practice, forget qualifying.
all we'll get, if we're lucky, is a time delayed, edited to fit the time slot, shell of a race.
so long speed; it was fun while it lasted.
