Way to often, we all see these comparisons between cars , as to how fast they accelerate, and how fast a lap time on a given track. Lets say with exotic cars, comparing say Ferrari / McClaren, the last comparo I read, had both cars, not the La Ferrari VS the McClaren top of the line Hybrid, but both companies cars that were most alike, they were so close in every test, Ferrari coming in with the better overall driving experience. Most owners are not going to be able to use their cars full potential, on the road or a track, so I think the most important comparison should be how much do you love to drive your car, and what kind of driver input gets you the most output of fun. Does it really matter if your SF90 gets beat in the 1/4 mile ? Does it really matter how your 488 GTB compares with an Aston Martin ? I dont think so. I do believe Ferrari still has the market beat on driver experience, with that being said, as we all have talked about 1000 times before, not as good as the Ferraris of old . When looking at your exotic parked in the garage, does it provoke an exciting , heart skipping a beat, kind of feeling ? I know my car still does after 22 years . I think thats probably the most important, that you just love looking at your machine, as much as you do driving it . A cars design in my estimation, is far more important than its performance. I still believe that Ferraris, are the most enticing cars in the world . On another note, the KTM 1290 SuperDuke has 175 HP, my two Ducati Monster 1200s, have 145 / 160 HP. With that being said, the KTM is not even in the same Solar System when it comes to design / looks. The Aprila Tuano VS. Ducati Streetfighter, very similar in performance, but in looks, the Ducati wins Hand over fist.

    Thank you

You bring up excellent points. I agree wholeheartedly that the individual judges a car (or anything for that matter).

    Rosebud anyone?

To some an SF90 is crass, to others a 250 is janky. Some refuse to drive paddles, others will never touch a carb. The list is endless.

I argue though that part of the Ferrari ethos has always been speed. Of course, not always the 'fastest' nor does Ferrari win every Formula 1 championship, but they've always been right in the fight.

The next batch of hypercars has electric paradigms. Environment be damned. Electric's paragon don't have to be about political nonsense, mainly because speed is not sacrificed, on the contrary, the new era is shattering production car records that you need some heavy tuning to stock cars for ICE to accomplish.

Speed traps and track records don't have feelings.

Yes, I get it - folks get upset, prefer biplanes to jets, record players to Spotify, steam over gas. Why the lamentation though? As a person that loves ICE and prefers it too, it just means MORE FOR ME.

    ***

We all worship at the altar of Enzo, and his son (even though folks here claim to know more) has said with no pressure before the electric era that Enzo would be the FIRST to switch to electric and be fascinated with it.

(start at 5:00 minute mark to hear Pierro answer what Enzo would have thought of electric)

"I think he would be very happy with Ferrari. He would been happy with the technological developments as well. He would have been fascinated with angle of producing hybrid or electric vehicles. He would have been the first to do it. He would have been the first to look to the future."

    -Piero Ferrari

So, folks that refuse 2,000 HP hyper electric cars would be disagreeing with Enzo. If you do, that's great; I'm sincerely happy for you; what is strange is why you can't see Enzo's viewpoint?

I largely agree with the spirit of your assertions. For my part, I fall into an unusual grouping of enthusiasts, I tend to like all high-end cars, and my collection is only limited by space and resources (although I continue to work through both those impediments). To me, each car performs a function and meets a purpose; each has it’s own personality and imperfection(s). I rather enjoy exploring the vast differences in priorities between the different manufacturers.

I often sit in my garage with a beer and just look at my F430 manual and smile. I smile even more when I drive it. I often think of something newer and faster but I soon come back to my senses. Sure there are plenty of 600-800+hp cars out there. But 500 is barely usable on the street. Plus, for me, all the latest tech takes away from the driving experience. A good friend said to me he would have a modified Nissan GTR over my Ferrari because it would be faster and he can't understand why I don't. He genuinely does not get it!

Its all about the experience, that is why a true aficionado purchases a ferrari
