Regrets, didn't see this topic earlier.

Check out Paragraph b of the subject. The CHP lad failed to appear when I did a pleading to a judge at the court in San Gabriel. He allowed moving the trial to the county seat, Los Angeles!

    Gotta play the game.

UPDATE: I plead guilty. Being this was my first offense, I asked the judge if he thought a court trial would take that into consideration, hoping I could get traffic school. Due to how fast I was going over 100, it would have done me no good. $711 fine, no loss of my license at all!, 2 points, no traffic school, etc. Overall I'm not feelin too bad about this whole thing, definitely a learning lesson. Thanks for the advice everyone, safe driving!

Interesting... that's not what they have told me. Maybe it's region by region, perhaps unofficial, or just BS. I am only talking CHP by the way - I have no knowledge of the other groups out there.

I must also confess that I am still coming to terms with how over policed California is, and how inefficient it must be to have 30 billion different police departments all stepping on each other's toes :) I am used to (in Australia) one state PD that handles EVERYTHING, and a Federal PD that handles international crimes and immigration issues. Same deal with the Fire Brigade - One state service that can allocate vast resources where they are needed, when they are needed. I am also used to a much higher tax rate!

Good job Jay for seeing this the way it is meant to be - a learning experience designed to keep us all alive a bit longer.

I still do not have a radar detector. I'm almost afraid to buy one, I'm worried I would trust it too much and find myself in trouble again.

"Baby" came w/ K40 radar front and rear. Am going to add the laser vaproizer by the same folks. But, neither of these nifty tools will save you from the flying police. CHP's got wings. Especially on 5, but probably elsewhere. Better have the top down and a spotter on-board. They track your time between two known, fixed marks in the road and calculate your speed. Look up.

I doubt it. But my advice for anyone in the future dealing with these types of tickets, just come up with enough reason to prove anything the officer is saying wrong, and you have a chance to win your case. It can be the slightest doubt, that is all they need. I got pulled over doing 140 and the cop showed up in court my friend had already plead guilty to the case that was driving next to me. I had no choice but to fight it had 4 pts at the time, and 2 more would have suspended me for 1 year at least. When the cop told his story

Cop story: I heard the guys coming onto the freeway, and I was doing about 80, as I keep approaching I saw 2 cars enter onto the freeway at high speeds. I tried to follow after them, and could not pursue cause my bike had already maxed out at 128, luckily they exited the freeway and I was able to follow them, and pull them over..

My story and Question: Ok, so as you were doing 80 mph which you were already speeding yourself, you heard our car coming onto the freeway, which I was coming onto an onramp doing 40-45 tops cause it is a pretty tough onramp to do anything over that even in a race style vehicle, you saw us take off.
Question 1 to prove doubt: So you were doing 80 and I was doing 40-45 should you not have passed us if you heard us and you were already doing 80 and I was doing 40?
Officer: Uh.... yeah, but not sure.
Ok so as I was doing the 140 like you stated, you saw us take off and you tried to catch up to us and pull us over RIGHT.
    Officer: Yes,I did
Me: Ok did you turn on your light to pull us over?
    Officer: Yes I did.
Me: Are you sure? It was 5am and no cars on the freeway, I would have seen your lights from even a mile away, and I would have pulled over.
    Officer: I am not sure.
    Judge: Ok
    I find you NOT Guilty....

So all in all speeding is not a good thing, I have learned alot since and have 0 points now and have kinda lost my heavy foot. Just don't give up hope when you get one of these tickets and try your best.

We all go faster than the posted limit. In your case at 21 you've only been driving 5 years. Have you ever taken a driving course like from Bob Bonderant or one of the greats? I suggest you do, or stay out of my lane! You're worried about a lousy speeding ticket, I'm worrying about nuts like you, too young to have fear, to inexperienced to be driving that fast, and ready to make some family a bit smaller with one mistake at 120 mph. Tire blowout, mechanical failure, etc. I hope the fine is EXTREME, the suspension is long, and you take the time to really think about what damage can be done on a public highway at 120 mph should something go amiss. No, I do not feel one bit sorry for you.
Oh, and by the way, I'm 67 years old, but lost my driving license when I was 17 for 6 months, I paid EXTREMELY high insurance till I was 25 and married. I learned the hard way, and thank God I didn't hurt anyone with my extreme speed. I trust you have learned a lesson. Head for the track, pay the fee and have a ball getting close to the edge, NOT ON THE ROAD I MAY BE ON WITH MY FAMILY!!!

A Buddy of mine has 11-99. He got caught speeding, they let him go with a warning, I think it all depends on

    1. Who you are
    2. What you Drive
    3. What mood the officer is in

I got pulled over, younger guy in a modded car, with a state sheriff's Association, Cop didn't give a crap. Was not speeding or anything, he just had a bad day, and then made it my bad day. So yeah I think it can help for the right person
