I celebrated the 4th by getting popped for 66 in a 45 zone in the Dino. The road in question is out in the country, and has long straightaways that make 45 mph a joke. However, the cop was coming in the opposite direction (in an all blue "stealth" car) and caught me fair and square on his radar.

He did give me a big break. He wrote me up for "disregarding traffic laws" rather than the actual speeding offense. By doing that, he lowered my fine by about 100 bucks, kept my record clean, and allowed me to mail in the fine rather than having to appear in court. I thanked him for that.

I have a V1 radar detector, but I've never gotten around to hooking it up in the Dino, since it has that funky cigarette lighter. Had I been using it yesterday, I'd say that it would have reduced my chances of getting nailed by at least 50%.

'sounds like a HUGE break, Dan. Collector car insurers don't like the S-word. Perhaps the poliziotto thought the 45 limit a bit conservative, too...but couldn't totally ignore 21 over the posted. Or, he might have felt that the 'punishment' fit the 'crime,' & would be more effective than making your life miserable. Maybe he is a Dino fan & wants you to keep on drivin' it. And you will!
I don't recall seeing "disregarding traffic laws" as one of a plethora of options here in California. Is that similar to a parking ticket & doesn't count as a moving violation? 'sort of a slap on the wrist?
At any rate, after an appropriate amount of dust has settled, you might see him at a shine & show, or on some other unofficial occasion, and offer him a ride...a slow-ride...in your bella macchina!
    Cheers,
    Coop
