We had a speed sign on a country road here, nice wide, clear, road with a long straight bookended by two tight corners, but my challenge was to record the highest speed I could on the sign, whilst still being able to brake into the next corner safely. I had the 575 at 153mph and a jag supercharged up to 137mph. Awesome. Unfortunately, plod realised wat was going on, as more like-minded people used it as a challenge instead of a deterrent and switched it for a simple sign.

Doing 95 on a 55 zone around 11 PM (long day at work). Another car was behind me 100 yds. doing same. Passed a marked car on the shoulder. Never even bothered to slow down. The poor guy behind me got pulled over after he slowed down and the chase car caught up to him. Got lucky.

My only ticket so far was in 1986 for 55 in a 35 zone in my '75 Civic.

I think I'm due for another, it's about time. Outside of school zones and residential areas my usual rate of speed is definately above what is posted. The secret is that it _usually_ is also below the "ticket" speed. On the freeway I always try to be the second fastest vehicle, never the fastest.

I got one for 26 is a 15. It was at the entrance of my base and a SF truck was sitting behind a display plane. The 30mph speed limit sign was just 50 feet in front of me. Very lame.

Was at 150 in my 911 turbo for a brief second, got pulled over a minute or two later after i slowed down for 72 in a 65. Ha!

I did get a ticket on spring break a few years back in Florida for 99 in a 70. $279 fine but officer was cool otherwise. Impressive thing was that this was in a friends olds mobile alero that had a top speed with the weight we had in the car of about 105.

We were on a F-car club drive last year with about a dozen F-cars. Going down some back roads in southern Indiana hill country. First guy in line crests a hill doing about 80 in a 40 zone just as a local sheriff crests the other side. Cop slams on brakes and starts to turn around as the 2nd F-car crests the hill. So he waits and starts again just as the 3rd one crests the hill. After waiting for a dozen F-cars to fly past him, he finally figures out that this is some sort of club drive and gives up. We figure he didn't know which one to go after, the first guy in line or the last guy.
Luckily we had lunch at a private country club behind closed gates. If we had eaten at a public restaurant, he might have found us and written us all up together.

Since we're going to talk about tickets this is an absolute classic:

I was racing professionally in the late 70s. When there wasn't a race, it wasn't unusual for myself and a few of the other guys who were racing AMA races, to go on the "Sunday Morning Ride" which started in Mill Valley, and headed over to Stinston Beach on Highway 1. Very tight road, and no place to fall down, runs along the seashore.

After a ride in the am, we'd go to breakfast, and then some of us to go on to ride further north. Well, one Sunday, four of us headed north. It's about 15 - 20 miles from Stinston to Marshall on Highway 1. We were definitely going fast, using the entire road, knees on the ground, and making more than decent time. Well, we got to Marshall, and we slowed down to the speed limit a few miles before hand. As we entered the town, one of the guys, riding a750 Honda, went past me (I had the lead then and was on my 750 Kawasaki). Right behind him was a CHP car, all lite up. He kept going and the CHP kept after him. The rest of us stopped, and two of them decided to head back, thinking they'd avoid the cops. I knew better. I put my bike off the road, covered it with branches, took my helmet and jacket off, and walked into town to sightsee.

The other two guys got stopped and ticketed, and the guy on the 750 also got caught. They got me to defend them. At any rate, I was well acquainted with the Judge, and got their tickets reduced to straight speeding. As we were walking out of court, I mentioned to the CHP officer that I had a bike identical to the blue Kawasaki they'd been looking for but didn't find. His comment: If I see you out there, you're getting a free trip to the jail. Neddless to say, I didn't go back for a few years.

3 in the morning on a 4 lane highway that for some reason had a 45 mph speed limit, I was tagged doing 160 mph in my M3. Cop didn't even bother pulling it, they all knew my car in that area and came and picked me up at my house. 1077 dollar citation.

Back in the late 90's, I was in Daytona Beach on vacation, and driving back to Miami at the end of it in a Mustang, stopped for burgers, Im guessing north of Lauderdale, maybe further north. As we went to leave, a cop car went past onto the onramp, so I hung back and let him go. Gave it 10 minutes of steady driving to let him get away, and thought I was safe.

cranked it up to 120/130mph, and was cruising nicely, came around a swerve with some concrete walls dividing the highway, he was there on the grass, radar on.....

Damn it, slowed to 80, knowing he would get me anyway, and he followed me for a few miles, then pulled me over. Nice guy, had a chat, knew I was a tourist, offered me some advice as per where to move if i ever emigrated stateside (west palm beach as im a financial adviser, and he told me its rich pickings there!), but still wrote me up a $1000 ticket for 120mph! im guessing these days it would be jail, so I was lucky.

Posted the cheque at the airport before I left (I have a US bank account, luckily), as I was worried i wouldnt be allowed back in if I tried not to pay. Had a nice letter back from the courthouse receipting the cheque, which I didnt expect - guess it paid someones wages that day!!

Given the nature of Ferrari speedometers I don't really know how fast but it was AS fast as the car(400i) would go on a lonely straight country road. Deciding it was really foolish to be doing so I lifted after a brief run. A few moments later WAY back I noticed a police car, lights ablaze.
If I tried to run and was caught I knew it would be jail so slowed to the limit and waited.
After handing over my license, etc. the officer asked if I knew how fast I was traveling. My honest answer was "no". When informed it was 97 mph I was quite relieved. Good thing I lifted when I did. The ticket was written for even less.

Well for me 130 mph in a 65 going down I-55 from Chicago to Bloomington in 1996 in my Porsche 968..... on snow tires. What's a speed rating? Cop pulled over about four of us and wrote me for 98+ since he only got the front car and not me. Can't remember the fine.

But, riding with a buddy of mine in his track prepared Mini Cooper S coming back from Road America we got pegged doing about 120. As the cop pulled us over several other club racers zoomed by us on the shoulder. My buddy says to the cop, "Did you see those guys? I was only speeding to try to get out of their way!" Cop let us go and took off after the other racers.

doing 80KM/h in a 60, trying to beat all the traffic because my lane merged into theirs. Cop was sitting right after the corner and got me. Wrote me up for a $700 ticket, add on other useless fees and stuff I needed to pay to get my license back, and I was looking at a ticket well over $1200 when it was all said and done.

Needless to say, Someone definitely pissed in his cereal that morning!

We loaded the family truckster and motored up the Columbia Gorge out of Portland to look at a forest fire.

On the way back, a trooper pulled me over for speeding in a 55 limit zone.

He started the discussion with the classic line: "Do you know how fast you were going?"

Before I could respond, my son, then about eleven or so said "Yeah, he was doing over 75."

    Thanks, son.

The po-po caught me doing 82 in a 55 but wrote me for 74.

$170 for 27 over in my truck is actually not as bad as I was expecting :)

The fastest I was ever caught doing was 92 in a 55 on the Mass Pike back in 1986 in my Toyota MR2 (man I loved that car). The trooper wrote me up for a speed that got me out of reckless endangerment (they would have impounded my car and put me in jail).
My last two tickets were 40 in a 25, pretty lame. I mean, who drives 25mph?

I think none of us, law enforcement included, can drive over one mile in a metro environment and not commit a traffic violation of some kind.

Notwithstanding that, considering the number of times I intentionally violate the posted speed limit and do not get caught way outnumbers the times I actually get puller over for speeding. I typically define speeding tickets as a government sponsored specially accessed road tax. However, when I do get a speeding ticket it is usually when I least expect it, or unintentional, and that is what is aggravating.

When I leave the house, especially in the F-car, my wife asks how fast am I going to drive. At this point anything under 100 is usually acceptable.

My personal best ticket is a 77 in a 55. My fastest public road speed is 130, on a motorcycle. My fastest drive is about 160 on a track.
