Hi, I just got a ticket for speeding in QLD. I want to make the process as painful as I can for the QLD government. I don't have an ozzie licence anymore only a Hong Kong Licence, and I was driving my mums mazda. Don't care how much it costs, but I would like to beat it. It was 117 in a 100 zone, two lane country highway, no schools or houses near by. Only sugar cane. Thieving buggers!! Any Ideas??
this worked with me. I did 116km/h in a 100km zone and the cop wrote just highway name and not where on the highway. Very close to where I got caught is a 110km/h zone. The rule is, were aloud to go 10% over for human error and you can do 120km/h in a 110km zone. So you appeal it and then argue that you should not get charge the price for going 15km over because you were under the limit 15km limit in a 110km zone. Then when you have be seen driving in a 110km zone, your out! because your under the 10% limit. good luck.
Pay them in postage stamps or small denomination coins. Both are perfectly legal. I also got caught recently in the south of Victoria, on the way home from Wilsons Prom. I was the ONLY car on a very wide road near the beach at inverloch. My wife and baby were asleep next to me and I was just cruising along harming no-one, being very smooth and quiet. So a speed Nazi sticks his revenue blaster out his window from behind a tree, pulls out in his Commodore, (boy, does he love his Commodore, sad pr1ck) and flags me down. I have to tell him to be quiet as to not wake the family. He tells me its a 50 limit!! There's no road markings, no signs, no lighting etc, and the road is easily safe at 80 or even 100. He says I was doing 67. I really have no idea. I was going that smoothly and gently with sleeping family and I certainly wasn't looking at the speedo as my instinct told me I would be well under the speed limit based on the road size and location. So, I say ok, Senior Seargent (!!), save the population from my terrorising driving antics and deal out the dues. $128 bucks!! So I gave him my Uk licence and when dad gets the letter he'll say I was last seen in Borneo saving probiscus monkeys or something...... What type of person gets any job satisfaction with a title like "Senior Seargent", and just books people for petty things like that. The pr1ck will probably retire at 50 on a full pension paid for by me and other taxpayers too. Cops should use common sense more. Then they might actually be liked one day.
serves you right, you are clearly a menace to society , if you wanted to spend big money you could challenge the validity of speed cameras and the current road safety/revenue system, but that would no doubt cost millions and years though you would become a national hero . Realistically you dont have much hope if the photo shows 117 in a 100 zone the judge wont care "speed cameras are about saving lives" I believe there is some guy in Sydney or Melbourne that specialises in this maybe give him a call (im sure somebody would know who im talking about) and get off on a technicality. Other than that just contest it to waste their time my little bro got one in like June went to court today pleaded not guilty and has to go back next April so you can keep it locked up for a while. With sending the coinage you dont have to accept more than 10x the face value (i think its around that) i.e 50c in 5s so they may just send it back. Maybe be real creative, write a check on the side of a cow and have it delivered hell you might even be able to get your bank to pay for it if you have the media see it. The traffic cops over here are really starting to give me the ****s I fought them a couple of months ago, I had some undercover cop try to get me to race, I ignored him so he put on the high beams and got really close to make me speed, I ignored him so he pulled me over anyways told me that I was a street racer and proceeded to search my car for defects gave me a bloody $260 fine for my (stock) number plate not being visible from 45` and therefore "may" not be able to be seen by a camera. Had I ran a red light I would have only gotten a mere $135 fine, infact on the list on their site (which is very hard to find) only speeding carries a higher fine shows what they are trying to achieve. Not wanting to waste my time and money in court I tried to sort it out directly with the traffic branch I sent a detailed letter of events and a copy of (their own) regulations, which clearly said that if it came like that from the factory it is fine. They replied, to bad "due to the circumstances we feel the fine was warranted" (wtf) and that I should pay or take it to court I then wrote back asking what the "circumstances" where they not only refused to answer but told me I only had from the original letter to lodge an appeal (or be fined more) I then called the racq legal team was told I was right and to resend it, I sent the exact same thing, funny enough I got off can you post a copy of the fine? might be able to see something to get you off, just be happy that you where not in vic anybody know anything about some ringroad and accidents going down after the cameras where turned off??
you're buggered! Trust me, I've had more fines than you've had breakfasts (unfortunately) and if you go to court trying to question the validity or accuracy of radar you will fail as they introduced into legislation that you can't do this anymore (I use to drag the court cases out for months on this one). I even had several other cars in my photo and still had my objections rejected. The worst case I had was coming back to the Gold Coast from Brisbane just after dark and near Coomera they had a camera on the side of the road, me doing 115 in 110 zone (cruise control and possible over-reading speedo) and some guy comes screaming past me, the camera goes off, gets me nearest the camera and a faint glimpse of his plate in the right lane but not discernible and I get the fine!!!! Thanks very much and no you can't contest this sir??!!!! So even if you know you're innocent (for me this is almost never true but occasionally I'm unlucky due to the amount of driving I do and how close to the edge I want to drive) you have buckley's but go ahead, you may be lucky but with a speed camera you have little to no chance of beating it unless you have photos of the camera van being used in an illegal manner and you have a copy of the operational manual for THAT camera, trust me they have more ways of ****ing you up than you do of ***ing them up, been fighting them for 33 years and never won yet but have been a pain in the arse I've stopped driving any huge mileages now and haven't been fined in nearly 2 years, the cops probably think I'm dead but the small miles I do I still suffer anxiety due to the sneaky ways these bastards use the radar catching people doing 65-70 in a 50 zone (these were all 60 zones and some toolhead decided 50 was safer!!!!FFS drop dead you **** that decides this **** you obviously don't drive a ****ing car!!!) Phew, can you tell I've been fined shedloads ??
i'm still waiting to hear how you managed to lose your license 14 times and not be in prison... http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=134561269#post134561269
I am living proof that they are only after money!! The worst case was when I got 17 speeding fines in a month back in 85 or 86, you lose count when you're a bad boy I'm old now and never speed anymore although on the way to the GP several years ago with a fellow Ferraristi on board I heard "someone" was speeding away from a candy car in an ex-gt4, but this is all myth when the drugs wear off There is one lunatic somewhere in Qld who has a very fast 575 which rocked past me on the way to Brisbane one day when I was travelling "fast", in such a manner that I thought I'd parked the car!!!! I have no idea who this crazy person is but I admire the man for thumbing his nose at the camera nazis The people at the license renewal section always give me a funny look when I ask if I can have a six month license instead of the 5 year one as I never hold onto it long enough to make 1 year let alone 5!! Yet in all that time of exceeding the speed limit I come unstuck on a badly built road with standing water at 87kph in a 100kph zone...go figure. I was thrown in the slammer once, for doing a wheelie in Ipswich in '81 and the cops gave me a seriously hard time over it too, got my g/f to move the car so they could book her for drunk driving , I don't drink so they could only get me for being a hoon, still am, always will be
I have an idea after reading all the previous posts. I think i'll write them a check for 150AUD on my HK check book and see what happens. As the QLD gov doesn't give you the option to pay by credit card. ferrarifixer was in borneo the other day, did I see you there??
the trick is to slow down everytime you see a car on the side of the road, works for me never got a ticket, got done by an undercover cop once though overtook him on the m1 doing bout 140 he pulled me over gave me a talking to then let me off
you are one lucky SOB I must have a dial that begs to be hit Last time I overtook an unmarked car he tried to run me off the road so I gave him the Sydney touch up and disappeared into the distance only to have 6 cop cars waiting at Dreamworld for me ...uh oh here you are sir, 3 fines and they let me go!!! Now in NSW I'd be calling you from a cell My sister got let off for doing 237kph in my car because she cried!!! wtf!! I'd bawl my eyes out if they let me off
We must of gotten the same undercover pr**k unfortunately for me I did get booked for speeding and lost my license for 3 months(115kph in a 70 zone)I was at a set of lights in my bmw minding my own buisness when these two rough looking guys pulled up next to me in a falcon ute. They were staring at me and I didn't look at them. The lights changed I took off and they did a small burn out to follow me to the next set of lights. This continued for the another set of lights same thing then there were no more lights for a while. They were right up my ar**e and were hounding me.I did 80 they were still there.90 and still there.100 and still there. It was about midnight and I wasn't from the area and I was getting a bit scared thinking these guys wanted to harm me or something. Our speed increased to over 115 when all of a sudden I saw these blue flashing lights I was releived as I thought they were behind the ute when I noticed it was coming from the ute.I immediately pulled over and one of them starts telling me off about how dangerously high speeds I was travelling at and tells me I was doing over 115kph and I then asked him why didn't you pull me over when I was doing 80kph and why did you wait for me to travel at such a dangerous speed? His mate said we wanted to see how fast you would go!I call that entrapment and he said do you want me to look for defects in your car?I obviously just shut up and said nothing more.It wasn't the first time I lost my license and as I later found out it wasn't going to be the last. Not quite up to your status John but I'm not to far behind.Moral of the story is you can't beat these Bast**ds.Has anyone tried the one where you write a cheque for $150.01?
That incident was in 89.I lost my license first in 88,89,91 and recently last year 4 months after getting the GT4.Was doing 93 in a 60 zone.NSW had just changed there penalty law that 30 over the sign post and you automatically los your license for 3 months. It was previously 1 month and 45 and over gets you automatically 6 months unless your name is John Singleton who got done doing 160 in a 110 in his Bentley and his Lawyer I think was Chris Murphy argued in court that the Bentley was designed to travel safely at that speed.Of course he got off with no fine just court costs. One rule for the rich and one rule for the......well I guess if we're driving around in Ferraris we can't call ourselves poor but you know what I mean!John not to be out of line but your sister must be pretty hot to get off the hook at that speed!
A friend of mine was caught speeding not long ago, and he had a mate in the car with him that was switched on to these entrapment techniques. He took the cops photo with his camera phone, and told him he was being recorded by the same device (even though he wasn't). He soon changed his tune........ I reckon if Police work was compared car mechanicing, Speed trapping is like Gasket scraping..... It's gotta be done, but it's the unskilled **** job you give to the newbie to get rid of him for a few hours.
gawd what a line, most modern cars are quite happy at that speed, and i'm sure ferrari's are only just becoming useful as those numbers are ticking by. i guess he had to submit some sort of argument just as a formality.
I know. He did give me a scare though told me that I would lose my license and get a $500 fine then said he was going to let me off but if he caught me again would give everything he could. good night that hit the clubs then got dragged into a strip club (why pay to look at what u cant touch??? )and groped by a stripper who thought we stole her panties and hid them I dont think entrapment laws apply in aus, so they can do what they want as (they think) they are above the law. I dont really look at my speedo and was once driving behind a cop car into the city(matching speed) went past a 60km sign and looked down as I felt I was going faster, both of us where doing about 75 Unfortunately the police are always right, kinda scary what they can do, if they think you are involved in organised crime, which being honest with the "assets" most people on here have no matter your income a case could be made if they really wanted to they can take it all and you have to prove where every cent came from and that the money you used came from legal means (rather than just ability), who the hell keeps records that detailed they did it to some guy (a biker) he proved it was all legal and when he got it back it had all been sprayed with a saline spray so all the bikes/ cars where buggered
she is good looking AND a damn good driver but I mean to say, IT SUCKS that a woman can just turn on the waterworks, flash a bit of leg and the cop starts feeling sorry for her, at that speed (near Uralla on the inland hwy) this was back in the "old days" , 83 or 84, so I'm sure all the soft touches have gone onto bigger criminal careers since. I remember the Singo case (he still owes me money I lent him in Fiji, the lottery tickets didn't do anything for me Singo) and to this day don't know how he got away with it as plenty of racing car drivers have been booked over the years.
The police are a generally a law unto themselves, however here in Vic I am finding that even the gestapo like police don't agree with the speed camera situation here. You guys from QLD, NSW and SA should STFU. Ever been booked for doing 103 in a 100 zone? Talk about absolutely ludicrous. NONE of you have to deal with this whole no tolerance speeding BS. I am blown away that no one has argued the ADR 10% discrepancy on speedo accuracy issue. Our Government presumes to measure our speed to a greater degree of accuracy than we can legally measure ourselves. The State Govt budgeted $400 million is speeding revenues, then engineered the laws to try and realise their revenue estimates. Doesn't help when you have a labour Govt that continually in budget deficit, always on the lookout for a new way to scam their residents to balance the books. But of course all of this is a nonsense, it is a safety issue after all, which they have invested $10's of millions of both our and the statutory insurance authorities (TAC) money to sell to us. Please, just be honest about it at least. The obvious money grab is so transparent, that I have started seeing articles in overseas motoring journals, mocking Victorians over this issue. At one stage the Vic govt received more from fines on it's approx 5 million population than the 60+ million population of the UK over the course of a year! Go figure?? The poms aren't exactly happy about the proliferation of speed cameras around the country either.
Stephen, totally agree, but VICs have been letting this go on long before the last few govts have been in and you've just let them get away with it. It won't be long before nobody can drive anymore with the draconian limits you have. There have to be speed limits but it's the Aust Safety Council I'm gunning for, they are a total pack of bastards who obviously don't drive and are enforcing the nanny state on everyone as they are treating us all as incompetent drivers that need to be walking. Here's the simplest step to improve the roads, ban automatics!! This will keep people off the road who have no idea what they're doing by making them take more of an interest in the principles of driving. Just look at the standards of drivers since autos have become the norm rather than the exception: more women on the road creeping at traffic lights older generation still able to get on the road nervous drivers can use autos but would be improbable drivers if manuals were the only option I know lots of people will be up in arms about the woman comment but the number of women that I know who can use a manual properly are damn good drivers but think about the women that are only licensed to use autos and tell me they're good drivers, I think not, and that includes my wife and mum. How else could these drivers be on the road AND using mobiles, lipstick, hairbrushes...and that's just the young boys , young girls have even more distractions, no-one thinks about their driving anymore so they impose draconian speed limits for the inevitable accident. Why else do you need 8 airbags, crumple zones, seat belts, side impact bars, collapsible steering wheels, ABS , ASR, ASC, SRS...... Autos take away the involvement of driving and reduce you to being a passenger to some extent and reduces stress which is good for city driving for those of us that were driving manuals for years. I've been driving for 33 years and had one accident six months ago, 87 in a 100 zone, nearly killed me, in the gt4, did the slow speed save me ? not according to the cops. They said I met all the right conditions, including the speed, to have the accident (check with the Qld traffic accident investigation branch if you doubt it!), they blamed the condition of the road to which we contribute shedloads of taxes from the petrol bowser but buggerall comes back to us in better roads, AND when it does they put speed cameras all over it!! I feel for our VIC brethren but you aren't alone as I got a ticket for doing 45 in a 40 zone on the road that runs along the beach in Surfers !!! How do you measure those increments on the Ferrari speedo!! Geez, mention speeding and I'm off, sorry
here's an idea that will never happen... i've always thought it stupid that my nimble 900kg roadster has the same limits applied as 3 or 4 tonne landrover/whatever, not only will i cause far less damage to anything i crash into, but i'm infinitely less likely to get into a crash in the first place. anyhoo, were it possible to apply different speed limits to different cars, it should be based on a car's stopping time. i don't know the actual figgers, so i'll fudge them, but say an average FWD shopping trolley stops from 60km/h in 4 seconds, in areas posted at 60, we should then restrict the speed of vehicles based on how fast they can go and still stop within 4 seconds. in residential zones, the limit can be 3 seconds, so say a honda civic can do 50, and a bus can do 30. on the freeway, the limit can be 6 seconds... who knows what speeds you can get. well, i know it's totally impossible, but discussions like these annoy the crap outta me coz we've all got fooked up stories of injustice, and frankly i'm sick of accommodating the lowest common denominator.
Your idea is actually a good one, that could further be extrapolated to include vehicle weight and crash rating. Just read an article in the latest Wheels about what happens in an accident with a 4WD. The only problem with all of this, because of the complexity involved, policing could only be practically enforced by black box technology. It seems easier for the Govt of the day to sweep the real issue, driver education, under the carpet. Why would this be, lack of revenue perhaps?
