It is time to post the weather outlook for this important event. Once again it looks like the gods are with tri-state F-Chatters, and the weather Saturday in the Hampton promises to be typical summer (no rain, a steamy southeasterly sea breeze with at least afternoon sun) and to thread the needle between lots of trouble brewing in the east. Experimental models we look at are indicating the lid is coming off the tropics with increasing probabilities that a tropical disturbance now a few hundred miles of the Bahamas will develop into a tropical storm and head up the east coast first threatening the North Carolina Saturday into Sunday. A second distrubance now crossing South Florida will move into the Gulf of Mexico and may also develop into a tropical storm (too soon to forecast any hurricanes though). Finally a line of thunderstorms will be heading east from western PA Saturday but should not reach the Hamptons until very late at night if that.

I am bit surprised by the somewhat optimistic driving times anticipated getting out east Saturday. I visit my bro in Sag Harbor regularly and traffic getting to and in the Hamptons on a nice summer Saturday is hellacious. It will be nothing like the April ROE. The run from Merrick to LIE and onto 27 should be ok but by mid-late morning expect bumber to bumber (and as lot of clutch action!) from at least the Shinnecock Canal on 27 all the way to Bridgehampton (this short leg along could take > 1 hour). Also, during the afternoon just going a mile or so along some stretches of 27 can take >30 minutes. I see that the route from the party to BMC uses mainly back roads and that is good. There are some back ways from the end of the divided part of 27 through Noyac and Sag Harbor to Bridgehampton but they are pretty hard to follow on a map. Perhaps one of the organizers out at Merrick can lead the way.

There is a slight chance I can make this. If not have a great day!

I'm very well versed in the back roads of the Hamptons and will be happy to lead the pack off of 27 which WILL BE a nightmare at the time of the day that we plan to be there. Sounds like we will have a great day out by the beach, so bring your shades and a desire to have a great time. I'm looking forward to spending my B-day with all of you out there! All I can say is NO TICKETS please! ;-)

Can you slow down the P-car so that the F-cars can stay with you?

    Happy Birthday, by the way...

I went last year and diverted from the pack to take the back roads. I arrived almost 40 minutes before the pack. The pack did the parade stuff through S. Hampton, Water Mill and Bridgehampton.

No, only because I don't know the names of the roads. There was a route printed in the NYTs a few years back(that person should have been executed). Created a big uproar(sharing insider info)

    Thank you my brotha...

I'll see what I can do as directions are concerned...I know the roads, but actually writing down the names of each and every turn may prove impossible. Spoke to Merdav and we figure that at least 5 or 6 of us can keep up if we pop onto the backroads! ;-) Goin' to be a great day!

This one may be a little tricky, there is an easier alternate way also, we can decide when we get toward South Hampton which one is best. This run would be a really good time to try and get these GMRS walkie talkies working. I think Radio Shack sells just one instead of a set for $23.99. At the ROE I think the designated channels: Main channel 10, sub channel 10. If you have one may be a good idea to bring it or get one.

I'll go on the Radio Shack Website right now to confirm that we are all using the same unit. I think this will come in VERY handy on this particular trip out there. Thanks Michael...

    993 is right.

You guys should be north of the highway starting in southampton, get on noyac road, left at long beach, right on 114 south, through sag harbor, left at the fork and that will take you to sag main. sag main to left on gibson and then left on daniel's lane.

That will save you an hour.

You are going out of your way at the end.

do not make a left on 27 after end of sagg road. Let it turn in to sagg main. left on gibson (left side of cemetary) and right on daniels. That will save you another 10 minutes.
