whats the go with speeding in nsw these days? im assuming its worse that it was 10 years back, what do i have to look forward to? are you cut any slack in terms of a grace limit, say 5-10k over before youll get written up? speed cameras are marked at least. what about other states?

been reading up on the hoon laws too. interesting, i do not understand how it can be legal. say you have a commodore, under finance, and its crushed. surely the police cannot lay claim to a vehicle that doesnt have a clear title? and what about a borrowed car, from what i have read, your car can be crushed in the state of victoria, even if you were not the driver. any thoughts? (Assuming no one has first hand experience of this lol)

    Don't speed

Traffic in NSW still travels around 10km'h faster then signed limit but speed cameras will get you for a few km's over.

The points system was overhauled a few years ago because too many people were losing their licences with <10km'h fines. Now it's only 1pt fine for 0-10km'h.

The hoon laws are different state to state. WA just speeding is enough to be classed as a hoon like this mechanic taking a lambo for a spin :(

NSW/Vic it seems they only go after repeat offenders and its usually street racing or doing burnouts.

Tha wa case raises an interesting point. its like guilty until proven innocent, but the owner was not at fault at all. (unless you could call leaving the car with a mechanic as fault)

typical lefty article. the cops jumped on the "just cos its a lambo" doesnt mean well release it. but thats not the point, the point is the owner wanted his car back for a crime (alleged) he played no part in. be interesting if it was his only car, and he did house calls, and a few pople died! that would be a field day for all concerned.

Got home from holiday yesterday and in the post was my first speeding fine in 10 years. :(

I thought the photo was for free, but apparently its still $7.50, I do recall a guy passing me on the inside and slamming on the brakes. I want to see of there are 2 vehicles in the picture.

then you may be lucky. i got off one that had two cars in the frame, it was a technicality whereby the police couldn't explain to the magistrate the exact angle that the radar device 'saw' its not something youd usually bother with but it was going to take me over my points so i took the chance and it worked. have a look at the pics first and hopefully both cars will be off centre. good luck

Seems to me there are fewer active cops on traffic duty than say in the 80's.

It's all just fallen to automation and mass revenue and naked grab for cash now factored into state budgets in anticipation.

My eldests 2 boys licence tests are testimony to profound disinterest shown by authorities in generating capable drivers and more just following the "rules" with all enforcement done and aimed at setting the lowest common denominator.

Compare that to my recent conversation with a German couple and the description of the thousands of Euro to take their very comprehensive licence test.. I think our dumb low national limits and our dumb low licencing standards just reinforce each other and driving is now a mindless bore on the open road if you want to stay alert then good luck!

In our local area there is a 10km stretch between towns which is lightly trafficed and nice and curvy and hilly and the ENTIRE length now dropped from 100 to 80 because some stupid people managed to semi-regularly lose it on one particular downhill bend in the wet.. so for sake of 100 metres of road (well signposted) we're all treated like dumb cattle for the entire length in perpetuity..

Needless to say what little patrolling is left is set to such places where the limit is 20 below what it should be left at and it's eagerly patrolled by the monobrow cops who delight in the slightest infringement nowhere NEAR such bends where it's easy to pickup.. does the academy find such people at birth and earmark them for state revenue generating non-thinking non-sympathetic duty I wonder?

There's a 50km zone on entry to industrial estate too that is deserted on Sundays but being at bottom of hill going into the drop to 50 is too good an opportunity to make more $ to miss..

I have yet to see cops on the OTHER side of town where it's ALSO 50 and where kids and houses actually are.. but I guess that's too hard and you make less $ over there.. you know... where it's actually needed, and where it would actually fit the "safety" mantra the pollies and commissioners routinely, and hypocritically, sprout for the TV sound bites.

I believe that the fixed speed cameras in NSW are tolerance-unforgiving but the cops allow circa 10% over the limit (at their discretion).

I've done 119km/hr on the F3 in the 110km/hr zone and a couple of times the police patrol car has passed me without incident. I've still panicked when they slip up behind.

Same here.. i actually applaud HP on motorway letting stream cars go when all smoothly going 120ish.. it just makes sense.

A local "nazi" here though jumps on way less though.. he's like a mobile camera all on his own.

A friend told me they saw him going well UNDER the limit but apparently enough so that if you actually overtook him you'd have to go just OVER the limit to do so.. giving him all the "justification" for ticketing no doubt.

Sounds harsh but a well known local reputation for heavy handed policing is well deserved in this case.

He's got a "mate" in another HP car who decided it was worth his time to go over my skyline and find such henious crimes as no "H" pattern on top of my top of line Momo knob, a, gasp, non-standard air filter etc..

Needless to say the really important stuff such as my 2 on board extinguishers, comprehensive first aid kit, my recently renewed first aid qualification, top condition sticky tyres, etc.. all go unremarked.

I support the guys doing a hard job and support them 100%, but the obvious tools who fall into this job can get stuffed!

The next time one of these morons does that again I'm recording the conversation with my various devices I keep with me since THEY do the same AND I'll go straight to the station and go over the details and waste of police resources AND forward a copy of officer's ID to their LAC and HQ for good measure.

Yes, we should all drive beige Camrys at all times so as not come to the attention of the few predatory officers out there.

Sending cheque off to get photo of speeding fine tomorrow. If the fine is legit I'm wondering if they'll bank my cheque made out to Civic ****s Victoria?

My brother did that in NZ to the local council and they banked it (XXXXX City ****s as opposed to XXXXX City Council). He also sent them his rates in 5 cent coins one year and also investigated if stamps were considered legal tender to pay them that way. :D We are a rebellious family.
