You hear this debate all the time. Its true, Magnesium, as well as pretty much all alloys, lose strength with heat, but we are taking 500 or 600F and up. My powder coater bakes at 350F.
Next time you are out at a road course with lots of breaking, check out how hot your wheels are near the hub. I've seen 300F+ with a laser thermometer

    Good point.

It's been 5 years and my wheels could use a new coat...

Yes, those are the original magnesium Challenge wheels, Kai. They're painted and have never been refinished...

I'm not familiar with the Cinel wheels. When you mentioned you were going to have them repaired and powder-coated, I thought that's the way they came.

Why don't you see about just having your wheels repaired. I've seen my shop repair curb rash without having to repaint the entire wheel. A good paint shop should be able to do that.

I was quoted about the same for repair of the chips, and with Speedline returning $1035 (800 BP) I'd rather have it just fully done. I'm not sure on their paint code, and I'd rather not have a strange paint mismatch.

Also, 2 of the 4 wheels have damage on multiple areas, not just like one chip, so they would need to be sanded down to almost no paint anyway. $300 is inexpensive for the full powder coat/ aluminum repair in my opinion.

Wonder if changing from original wheels to these Challenge remake wheels on a 355 will drop the value? From a purists point of view?

But then most 355's have a challenge grill.

    Ken,

My silver Challenge wheels were never refinished and still have the speedline stickers that were applied when the car raced in the Challenge Series...

    :)

Yours look like a later version.

Both versions are sold on eBay. They're 4 inches long.
