I read the existing threads, but this seems to me to be a unique case. My speedo and odo were both working just fine, I reset the trip odo, and from then on, neither worked. I'd think it's unlikely to be the sending unit, but what could it be? Any ideas? Thanks.

If you don't think it's the sending unit then there's only two things left its either your connection or the speedo gauge itself.
But why would you doubt the sending unit anyway?

The only reason I doubt the sending unit is that it stopped working right after I reset the trip odometer. I guess it could just be coincidence. Maybe I'll just buy a new sending unit and put it in so I'll know for sure. I just hate to guess at what the problem might be.

Why don't you check and test the sending unit first before replacing it.

Was the car stationary when you reset the odometer? On my 328, the previous owner said his speedometer stopped working when he reset while moving. He ended up replacing the speedometer. The owners manual actually says to reset it while stationary. I think it is on the page where the fold out drawing of the cockpit is.

The book also says that the door lock button should not be depressed before closing the door. It should only be locked using the key. I have never heard of a problem with that but it is one of those things that I don't want to try to find out.

Good luck, hopefully it is something you can fix without replacing the speedometer.

Yeah, I reset it while moving. Damn. Guess I shoulda paid more attention to the manual. Must have missed that part. That's true with the door locks. I can't lock my doors without the key. It doesn't even press down. Anyone know how to test the sending unit just in case that's the problem?
