Greetings All, I have a non functioning speedo. The instrument was rebuilt and the cable is new. I have traced it down to the angle drive coming out of the gearbox; it doesn't turn with the engine on and gearbox engaged. Upon inspection of the angle drive, the drive pin is borken/worn. My concern is if it is broken, is the balance of the pin still in the receiver? I've tried using a magnet with no avail. I want to take out the receiver and check before I install a new one. Are there any secrets to removing the gear? Parts Book 00404 to 01116. Tav 2 (L Model) #61, angle drive #62, (raccordo) receiver Thanks, Steve
Steve - just to be sure, when you state that it does not turn with the engine on,... is the car moving???? It will not, of course, turn while the car is idling at rest. I have this picture in my mind's eye of you face down, stradling the trunk, with a colleague driving the car at 60 mph while you peer down into the open engine bay trying to see if the speedometer drive is turning. There are no tricks to taking out the drive. Simply remove it. Jim S.
Jim, You pictured it right, still pulling the bugs out of my teeth! ;-) Actually, jacked the car up, removed the rear wheels, started it, and put it in gear. So if I understand it correctly, remove the one bolt and pull straight up? Is it safe to assume # 73 (bottom seat?) will remain in? Steve
