I've done a search and see that on most cars when the speedo fails the odometer quits as well. Usually associated with the speed sensor. Mine is an 87 Mondial and am wondering if mine should operate the same way.

My speedo comes back after about 30 minutes or 30 miles. Just jumps back to operation. The odometer has never failed in association.

My thought is based on my search that it may be a connection at the back of the speedo in the dash.

    Thoughts?

Has anyone had this occur to them?

Your general analysis is correct. The speedometer and odometer use the same signal from the same sender -- if your odometer is working, but your speedometer is not, the problem has to be associated with the speedometer itself (or its connections -- if you are lucky ;)). There've been many reports of here of bad speedometers on 3.2 cars so your trouble is not unique.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll see what I can find.
