I have an issue with my sensor, see picture. Anyone have any thoughts on how best to repair these broke off wires? I know the circuit board is crimped inside and I could use a dremel to get guts out but was wondering if there is a way to remove potting material or other ideaa like gently removing the top enough to get at wires. Once I figure that out, I plan to solder the wires back and use some epoxy to secure again. Once that is done, is there a way to test this sensor without an oscilloscope? Thanks in advance…these things are crazy expensive new.

It looks like you need to remove all the potting material manually. I would recommend to re-solder new wires all the way from the board if possible. That is most likely the easiest way to ensure a quality repair. Let us know how you progress- I potentially have a somehow similar job coming up on my bbi due to a heat sensitive issue with my speedometer and I read somewhere that this could be caused by aging electrical components in the sensor.

    Best, Peter

Just not meant to come apart. That potting glues to the housing and everything else, so even if you removed the crimp, the hard part of the journey is not over. I tried removing a potted transformer in Al housing. Battle to the end, and I would call it a questionable success.

A surgical cutback at the surface could allow enough wire exposure to perform a good repair. I would machine back about half of the nylon boss, then using a Dremel by hand to clear about the potting, remove the insulation, and solder. Yes, I concur a board re-connection would be best, but, "Better is the enemy of good". Do you know which wire went where? I think those sensors have polarity. Then I would go to Skygeek and look for the DOW aircraft silicone product to provide strain relief and sealing.

40 years ago, I was cleaning the motor on my 308, and bumped the wires on the sensor, and they broke the same as yours. That sensor was probably cheap and readily available.... anyway, I just repaired as described and it's been working fine since. I just took the car on a nice 80-mile drive (knock-wood). Lots of police out, so using that gage a lot!
