Hello Listers, My 1982 GTSi has a speedometer that works off/on. It is likely the transmitter on the gearbox and in starting to shop for one I understand it may the may not be available. Help? Ideas? Comments? Drive safe John
Electrical Parts for Ferrari 308, 208, 288 GTO & F40 - Superformance One of the few parts I would buy from them You made need to reverse the wires at the harness
Is yours the early or later? What you're looking for might be here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328/464677-need-failed-speed-sensors.html
Hello Johnny, you need to be sure which style sender you need. The change in production was made around Sept. 1981. Look at the side cover of the gearbox behind the R/R wheel. If the speedo sender mounts vertically on the top of the side cover, then you need the early sender, p/n 124146. If the unit mounts upward at a 45^ angle on the bottom of the side cover, that is the late style sender 116987. Ricambi's website has pictures of both for your reference but no pricing which tells me the part maybe be NLA through Ferrari channels. If you can't find the part you need, PM me as I may be able to help.
I had the same problem on my '85. Went to Eurospares, and they contacted Ferrari, who recommended replacement PN 149095, which only requires removing the connector supplied with it and using the existing one on the car. Sender is the same. Hope this helps. P.S. price from Eurospares for the new number is 138.18 pounds plus 44.65 shipping. It has been installed for several months now with no problems.
First of all. Check and clean the connector. I had the same issue two years ago. Purchased a new sender, but while waiting for delivery, I thought I could first check the connector. It is exposed to oil mist and road dust. After cleaning it worked again perfectly. Now I have a spare part on my shelf. I had a failing sender shortly after I purchased my car 19 years ago, but it failed completely and suddenly. On/off is suspicious for a dirty connector. Best Regards Martin
And fortunately, the connector on Sensor 149095 practically pops right off. . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I just went through this today. I found that I had to drive the pins through that connector with a jewelers screwdriver and tack hammer. The old sender tip was coated with a blob of oil which I suspect penetrated the sensor body and wrecked it. Now to attach the old connector and see if I have a working speedometer again.
