    Hello Adrian

Today for the first time the weather was fine for my first test drive with the repeared speedo sensor.
It works very well !!! You did a great job .
I have to test it with the GPS but I think it works fine.
After a few test I think you have sensor for production.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,

I've just joined this forum after looking for a replacement speed sensor. I've started my search with a Maserati part no. (a Ferrari is also in my plans, in some days :)) but mostly it was unavailable, or offered for a quite high price. Then started searching for alternative parts, that's how I found the Ferrari part numbers, and also for descriptions about possible repairs because I was suspecting basic internals. That's how I found Adrian's outstanding description about the sensors and all the great work done here.

I've just disassembled the sensor (Veglia 68 0517.1 -- Type 2) after the negative initial tests, and it seems that the first coil is broken somehow (open resistance) despite the sturdy looking potting. The second one has around 0.5 ohms. Oh yes, and broke one of the transistors somehow, and even though I've prepared with all the components, just realized at home that they gave me the wrong one (BC337-25, NPN).

Long story short, I would like to join the effort as a tester to help this great project.

Btw, why isn't it possible to rebuild the coil in these Type 2 sensors after removing all the potting material?

Peter, the coil on the type 2 sensor is potted in epoxy, so no rebuild option here. Pull off the outer cap with the rubber ring and you'll see the potted coil.

If you'll send me your sender/body i'll do a conversion and send it back to you for testing.

    Best,
    Adrian

Indeed I've realized after breaking it off accidentally... maybe a new one could be attached to the top somehow, but it doesn't really make sense since you have a superior alternative.

Thanks for the possibility, I'll PM you about the details.
