Speedo sensor has called it a day after 40 years of service...

I may contact Ferrari to see if it is still under warranty

Totally out of the blue, the speedo gave up the ghost. The needle is sitting on it's stop but occasionally, if I accelerate hard, it lifts itself off the stops for a little while before dropping back. The mileometer records the mileage when the speedo is working but not when it isn't.

I have assumed it is the sensor that is the problem, I thought I'd just buy and fit a new sensor, how much can they be? £207 + VAT = ~£250 at Superformance, that's how much... (US$ 350 I guess).
This has focused my mind & I think I will try and fix the old one... who has previous on this, will I be wasting my time?
