Having purchased a new Speedo cable fom Superformance it appears to be rather long if I route directly ...its such a long time since I removed the old one (years) I cannot recall exactly how it should be routed....at present I have it coming out of the tube at the rear and going direct to the little drive gear box....which leaves a coupleof feet dragging on the floor....should the cable go up and over something (petrol tank ?) on its journey ?

    RHD or LHD?
Using the old sheath and just slipping the cable in is the easiest way.

If you are changing cable and sheath it routes this way on my LHD version,
From the transaxle coupler it travels Left to the Driver's side chassis rails, forward through the Driver's side rocker, rises up in the front wheel well, in front of the vent flange, under the ventilation tubes and through the rear dash grommet.

Superformance cables are a perfect fit. It is routed down the outer cills!!

Very Od...I have it from the speedo into the wheel arch and down the cill tube and out at the engine end....if I then connect it directly to the drive box ...I have a metre too much...UNLESS I loop it up and over the petrol tank first....to take up that excess length....maybe it should be like that...but why ?

I think the superformance cables are 3.38m long from my notes for both LHD and RHD, so they are a little long (by 25cm) on LHD cars but the LHD factory part# was tight apparently.
My LHD L-series was originally 3.3m long.
Check the length as 1m too long is excessive.
What about routing through the front?

Thanks...Well I just have to have a rather big loop at the front and at the rear (RHD) I have looped it up to the top of the tank and down to the gear drive....it works but is too long.
Superformance whilst responsive and nice guys have a habit of sending bits that dont fit..
switches that are completely wrong..Air Ducts that are an inch bigger in diameter than original etc etc...rather annoying !!

Eurospares shows a 246 speedo cable for right hand drive cars that is 3.4 meters long. T-Rutlands shows speedo cable for left hand drive cars but out of stock. I couldn't find the part number in the parts book but came up with 401251 for one just hunting around. Seems like there would be different part numbers for LHD and RHD cars.

Correct, the speedo cable is actually exactly 3.40m long and fits perfectly if routed down through the cills and out under the petrol tank.

you have the wrong cable if it 1m to long.

Install so any changes in direction is on the longest radius possible otherwise you will be replacing it in under 50 miles.

Also you must lubricate the inner core as well with thin weighted machine oil prior to fitting otherwise it will fail.

Yes, the problem is none of the Dino parts manuals show a part# for the speedo cables but there are LHD and RHD part #s.
Here are the part #'s from Maranello classic parts, I asked them about it once and these are still there on the site:
    Part #401251 246GT/S RHD L & E-series 3.4m long
    Part #401394 246GT/S LHD L & E-series 3.148m long
Part #401490 246 RHD (no length or model info)

I think the others copied the Maranello info.
There seems to be confusion over which model has what cable (M? 206? at least the RHD L is covered!).
Note that #401251 is now an approved replacement.
