Hello all. I'm really amazed how people here really seems to care about other's doubts. I'm glad to know that I can count on you folks. I'll do my best to help others too.

Just bought from Trutlands (Mitch) a speedometer for my friend's 308 gtsi 1981. Since his car is American version, his speedometer went just up to 80mph and that was bothering him.

It happens that when we installed, the correct speed (GPS) was not even close to the speed shown on the speedometer.

Although this new speedometer looks exactly the same as the one in my car (wich is exactly the same year, model and version), Mitch from Trutlands told us that the speedometer was actually from a 308 QuattroValvole and he was not sure if it will work in his 308. At least he's been told so.

We guess the problem is the speed sensor. I will lend him my speed sensor just to check if it will work.

So any clues about this issue?

    Thanks a lot.

QV speedo will not work correctly with a 2V car. The sensors on the trans are different design and forgive me but this is from memory but the QV speed sensor sends 2X the pulse frequency as a 2V.

Yes, the transmission sensors come as "early and late" versions, based on the outpout signal.

The best way forward for him is to send the speedo out for a new dial face.
    That is easy enough!!!

There are also a replacement part "dual range" speedo, I have had one....It has MPH on the outer ring but does also show kMH on the inner ring of numbers.

No one likes the Orange Zone faces, a US requirement of the day (80-'81)

Or go with the later sensor, I don't know if the transmission fitting/interface changed or not.
